Wennfred Posted August 19, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2008 Storm to Close Miami Port 8/18/2008 Rick Eyerdam Florida Shipper The Port of Miami will close at 4 p.m. ET today to inbound traffic in advance of the anticipated arrival of Tropical Storm Fay. Previously, the Coast Guard Sector Miami declared Hurricane Condition X-Ray, calling for gale force winds from a hurricane force storm to arrive within 48 hours, for the Florida ports of Miami, Miami River, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Manatee. Port Everglades remains in Hurricane Condition Whiskey, which calls for gale force winds associated with tropical cyclone activity to arrive within 72 hours. Under condition X-Ray, both ocean-going and inland vessels and barges over 500 gross tons that wish to remain in the affected areas must submit a Remaining in Port Checklist to their appropriate Captain of the Port and should contact the Coast Guard Sector Prevention Office immediately. Lotta wind and rain coming in. Guess they want to keep the small boaters from leaving, fer sure.
mom2girls Posted August 19, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2008 I wouldn't be surprised if Port Canaveral closes soon as Fay's heading that way now. Schools are closed today and tomorrow for Brevard. (I'm in Orange County, and schools are closed today, but we're not sure about tomorrow yet.) cccruzer3 Posted August 19, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2008 Why would they close POM today "in anticipation of TS Fay's arrival." Didn't Fay already arrive and it's on it's way out of the Miami area?
