CarnivalCruiseLover Posted August 27, 2008 #201 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Let's go one step further and have everyone under the age of 21 banned from cruises. I think cruises should be for adults only! Boy this one will cause an uproar! Seriously, 50% of kids on board behave ok, but the other 50% don't, and it's the fault of the parents, and therefore, it makes us who don't have kids HATE them... especially on cruises. KroozNut Posted August 27, 2008 #202 Share Posted August 27, 2008 My son is six years old. He is a gentleman. He knows the salad fork from the fork for the main course. Yes, he does love to play, but I always supervise. It seems to me that you are complaining about negligent parents. I've always found it interesting that one's OWN kids are ALWAYS well-behaved, and never guilty of the dastardly deeds discussed in these types of threads.. ;)
Warm Breezes Posted August 27, 2008 #203 Share Posted August 27, 2008 I would have no problem with there being adult only cruises. Would I go on them? Maybe after my children have left home. DH and I have taken small trips (4 nights or less) without kids DS(14) and DD(11). I think every couple should try to get away at least once a year, even if it is for a day or two. Longer trips, however, are for the family. My DM married a man when I was 14 who plan and simply hates kids. All family vacations ceased once they were married and the only vacations were for DM and him while we were left at home. They owned a family restaurant and we were expected to work without pay from the time we got out of school until bedtime and all summer long. There were constant put downs and we kids could do nothing right. I was old enough to not let him get to me that much. I was a straight A student and as soon as I was done with high school I moved out and paid for college myself through work, grants, and scholarships. According to step-dad, I would never amount to anything and would end up dropping out of college, out of work and unmarried and pregnant. I ended up dating my DH through college. Getting married and getting a job after college, getting my masters degree and now make more money in one year then it probably took him in 5 years to make. DS(14) and DD(11) are well-behaved (not just MHO but others have commented as well), honor students involved in sports and church. He still complains how they are no good, spoiled brats and questions why we take them on all our long vacations with us. I love my mother dearly but I try to keep them away from the kid hater. The kid haters are out there. I lived with one for a while. Maybe if we get have a cruise cater just to them it would save the rest of us a lot of trouble keeping our well-behaved children away from them. Don't get me wrong I would possible go on an adult only cruise after my kids have moved on, but for know they come with me and I love every minute of it. Rowan555 Posted August 27, 2008 #204 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Seriously, 50% of kids on board behave ok, but the other 50% don't, and it's the fault of the parents, and therefore, it makes us who don't have kids HATE them... especially on cruises. My 7 and 9 year old kids would agree with you. I got the cruise bug a few months ago and was checking summer prices on the Fantasy. My son walked up and asked what I was doing. When I told him he rolled his eyes and said there was NO WAY he was setting foot on a cruise ship in summer. He said, "Do you know how many KIDS will be on the ship?" He then gave a disgusted sigh and walked out of the room. My kids are as intensely bothered by misbehaving children as most adults who don't have kids, and they prefer to cruise when there are very few other children on board. I can't blame them, as I feel the same way. Problem is, when we cruise (October, November, January, etc) there seem to be tons of LITTLE ones on board - I guess all the babies and toddlers appear when school is in session. I don't know what's worse - annoying bands of teenagers or a dozen screaming infants and a handful of toddlers in swim diapers taking over the pools and hot tubs. We just took a 5 day adults only vacation, and I have to say it was REFRESHING to be away from any and all children for that period of time. I probably only have to correct them in public once a month or so, and it's usually for arguing with each other. They're usually the ones poking me in the ribs and pointing to kids who are acting up, then telling me about how the parents need to discipline their children better. I've often secretly wished they go up and tell the parent in question that same thing, just to see the reaction, lol. Of course they know better - but it sure would be amusing. Isn't that the truth ? :) I always get such great compliments from teachers and other parents on how cheerful and well behaved and helpful and polite and courteous my kids are . These are not the same kids that live in my house I can assure you. *LOL* But I figure we have raised them to be productive mature adults out in the real world. So as long as they are doing well there. We are doing ok :)

KroozNut Posted August 27, 2008 #213 Share Posted August 27, 2008 I'd rather be at the craps table having fun, then sitting at a black jack table with all the anal retentive types that have a coronary every time someone makes a play they don't like. Agree 100%...and those Blackjack players are dead serious about it too! :o
Rowan555 Posted August 27, 2008 #214 Share Posted August 27, 2008 Agree 100%...and those Blackjack players are dead serious about it too! :o I cant even WATCH table games at a casino without getting anxious. I used my free tournament entry last cruise on the slot tournament because I'd have needed anxiety meds to play blackjack with all those overly serious people watching me like a hawk and analyzing every play. Kids which =families which = money, which = Carnival will have kids on there cruises forever.:p

I take issue with your percentages - while the idiots certainly get more attention and make more noise, they are, IMO, much fewer in number than that. terri910 Posted August 27, 2008 #219 Share Posted August 27, 2008 There's an adults only cruise on the Legend next April - full charter, 21 and up only. Of course many of you would complain that the pool areas are clothing optional and that there are a few thousand swingers on board. Can't please everyone, I guess.... ...but you have hit upon something. Charters. Even if Carnival never offers an adults-only cruise, it could still happen. Hmmm.... AND...for all those that just love having 1000+ munchkins aboard, they could do a charter cruise where you MUST have a child accompanying you, in order to book! VentureMan_2000 Posted August 27, 2008 #220 Share Posted August 27, 2008 In my 4 cruises, I could count on one hand the number of obnoxious adults. The folks getting way drunk are usually having a good time... and quite often can be the entertainment with their antics. I have seen very few "scary" dunk people, though I would probably place them in the obnoxious category. Kids on the other hand are just that... kids. It is their nature to get into trouble... and only good rearing by parents can keep the trouble making to a minimum. But unfortunately, there are way too many parents that are going to let the rails of the ship be their children's baby-sitter, or let the kids do as they please without regard for others. And this is the complaint. Adult only cruises would be wonderful. I leave my children at home when my wife and I cruise... but I will throw in that my children are extremely well manored... :D but I just prefer to cruise during the periods that children are likely to be in school... the times when parents are not likely to yank their little hoodlambs, ahem, children out of school, such as the last week or two or three before school is to let out for the summer. Typically, there are less than 100 kids aboard during these times.
