L1011driver Posted October 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2004 We will be visiting Cozumel in December and would like to visit Chichen Itza ruins. We will be in port from 7am to 5:00pm. Is that enough time to visit the ruins? If anyone has been successful (or not) on this tour, we would appreciate your insight. thanks.
CozSally Posted October 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2004 Arriving at 7am would mean taking the 8am ferry to Playa del Carmen. A quick car rental and you might be on your way by 9am. I believe it's about a 3 hour ride, which would get you there at noon. In order to catch the 4pm ferry from Playa back to Cozumel, you would have to leave by 12:30pm, which gives you time to return the rental car. Hmmm, a half hour at Chitzen Itza... no, definitely not worth it. There is a daily tour that flies you there, but they leave Cozumel at 11am and return at 5pm. If you have enough people who want to go, you may be able to alter the times. The cost is $186 + $39 airport tax per person. A good alternative is to go to Tulum instead. It's not as large a site as Chitzen Itza, but the setting is spectacular, on the cliffs on the edge of the turquoise Caribbean! Whatever you choose, enjoy! CozInsiderJacq Posted October 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2004 I recommend you book any mainland tours through your cruise ship. They will hold the ship for passengers they booked, but not for people doing it on their own. (should you miss the ferry back to Cozumel or encounter any other delays while on the mainland)
