Hi -- this is our first cruise with HAL -- we are currently booked on Westerdam in June cabins 6068 and 6070 on Upper Verandah.....have appt. with travel agent tomorrow -- she says for $100 more per person we could go from the SY to the SS into 8060 and 8062 on Navigation deck....have no idea if this is a good idea or not...my main thing was getting two cabins next to each other as we have six in our family....would really appreciate any feedback...thanks in advance.

Welcome to HAL and the HAL boards!

We've been on the navigation deck twice and have decided to avoid it in the future. If you're under the spa area it's fine but if you are under the Lido pool area you could hear the chairs scraping from above. For us it started VERY early in the morning (and we're normally early risers) and continued throughout the day until the pool closed. So, no sleeping in on sea days or naps in the afternoon. Some say the noise doesn't bother them but our solution is to avoid the Navigation deck. We will take an SY over an SS any day--same cabin, just different location.

Have a great cruise, whatever you decide!:D

Hi,

We were on the Noordam, which is the same class ship as the Westerdam. We had a SY suite on the Upper Verandah level and it was great.

No need to spend the extra money on the SS, as the cabin is exactly the same as the SY and there are no extra perks with the SS.

Actually the SS may be louder than the SY as the SS cabins are right below the Lido deck with all the deck chairs. Also, the SS cabins you stated are actually right next to the elevators. People can actually see your balcony from the elevators.

Use the extra money on excursions, spa, or Pinnacle dinner.
