Since our cruise leaves from (and returns to) Rome, we are thinking of spending at lease one night in Rome, any good suggestions as to where to stay? Would it be better to do this pre or post cruise? We are looking for a charming, smaller hotel. Thanks in advace for any and all help!

You'll get lots of answers if you post this on the Europe Ports of Call board but we stayed in a wonderful bed and breakfast place,

Nicolas Inn.

It's run by an American and her Italian husband. It's small, only 4 rooms, with the great breakfast at the local cafe and being within walking distance from the collomsium, it was perfect. $100 per night. http://www.nicolasinn.com/en

They even arrange for pickup at the airport and transfer to your ship.
