D & D Posted August 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2008 We're just going to do our own thing in GC. Are there shops, etc. within walking distance from the docks, and if so, is it safe to go it alone? Denise
KenMo Posted August 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2008 You'll get off the tender right in the thick of things. And yes....perfectly safe. Have fun!
The Flying Pirate Posted August 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Yes you can walk into town and it is very safe, they just (in the last year or so built a new Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, which is fun. There is a big area for shopping around where the tender dock is as well.
judyzoo Posted August 30, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Yes, shops and restaurants all over the place right at the dock, and perfectly safe. Crowded sometimes, but safe.
suebee53 Posted August 31, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2008 Grand Cayman has the highest standard of living in the Caribbean, and it shows. Clean, beautiful, very low crime rate. (Which got a bump after Ivan when people from other islands came to do reconstruction work. But you won't see any evidence of that.) There is a reason people keep going back to GC!! MarciaL Posted September 1, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 1, 2008 When we asked how safe Grand Cayman was, we were informed if you tossed trash out of the bus, you would get a $500.00 fine. Say you did not know, that's tough, it is still a $500.00 fine. Their beautiful 7 mile beach. There are no speed boats allowed anyway near the beach. If you do, you get a 1,000.00 fine, they confiscate your boat, motor and trailer, sell it and you do not get anything back, and you will spend 6 months in jail. Don't bother with calling a lawyer. That is the law and no lawyer can get it changed. I thought maybe we should make lots of our laws like theirs..... Lots of nice stores. Take a stroll thru the Black Coral store of Bernard K. Passman. He passed away last year, but his work is wonderful. He for years did all the gifts from the Cayman Islands to Queen Elizabeth and her family. Even if you buy nothing, just go look. mikaula Posted September 1, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2008 Grand Caymen is a wonderful place to visit. Not only is it clean and safe the shops are right on the dock. We bring our own snorkel gear and walk down the street a ways and then find a spot to snorkel.
