Loves_Dogs Posted September 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2008 I think I already know the answer to this, but after hours of reading the internet, I just dont know. Looking for insight & opinions. Which cruise would you choose for scuba diving? Keeping in mind that the total cost (cruise and airfare) are very similiar since one cruise leaves from Puerto Rico (airfare will be much higher) the other leaves from Miami. Obviously, the Liberty of the Seas being a much bigger newer ship, I would like to cruise on her. But I just dont know about the diving on that itinerary. Any info is greatly appreciated! Adventure of the Seas, a Voyager class ship which is a little older (2001): Aruba Curacao Dominica St Thomas OR Liberty of the Seas, a Freedom class ship that is only a few years old: Cozumel Costa Maya Belize
bruce-r Posted September 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Something to think about when choosing between the two cruises it your arrival time in port. If you arrive early enough, you can more easily make your own arrangements to dive. If you arrive too late in the morning, you may end up with the ship's excursion as your only choice. I think this is especially important for Cozumel where I'd very much prefer to dive with a small boat operator. Of those two interarys, I'd pick AOS. The diving in Curacao is about as good as it gets of all the stops you considering, IMO. Aruba and St. Thomas are both pretty good as well. cmdchiefthom Posted September 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2008 I absolutley agree with Bruce-r. I love diving Dominica as well as the other stops. If it were my money, AOS is the better choice based on the itinerary.;)
gmcrow Posted September 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2008 There is no question-- I'd do AOS. Then schedule as much time underwater as you can, especially at Curacao. I haven't been on that ship, but dove with people who have been and they were happy. We actually prefer ships smaller than the Voyager class, so I am factoring that in as well. Loves_Dogs Posted September 3, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted September 3, 2008 A huge THANKS to everyone for their input. I booked AOS tonight, and I was able to snag cabin 7618, one of those center 'hump' cabins. Unfortunately, I have over a year to wait. Guess I will have plenty of time to research and book my dives. Thanks again!
w&k Posted September 3, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2008 Curacao - Absolutely #1, hands down. Go dive with Suzy and Mark at The Dive Bus http://www.the-dive-bus.com When I recently had to rebook a cruise, DH just asked one question: "Are we going to Curacao?" He didn't need to know anything else. It's that good. Watch out for the blackmail photos on their website, though. DH and I are the 'serial cruisers', and there is a hilarious photo of us in the February 08 newsletter. (and that was before diving...) Dominica #2 if you dock in Roseau - dive with Karen at Nature Island Dive http://www.natureislanddive.com if you dock in Cabrits - dive with Helen at Cabrits Dive Center http://www.cabritsdive.com Aruba # 3 - dive with Clive at Dive Aruba http://www.divearuba.com Have a great time! vplsh Posted July 30, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2009 We're doing a similar itinerary, adding Bonaire and Grenada and skipping Curacao, in March on Caribbean Princess. If you could only dive in 3 spots, which would you choose?
