Was Grand Cayman destroyed anywhere by Gustav?

Grand Cayman largely escaped substantial damage from the passing of Gustav.

There were assorted power lines down and a few broken power poles. All major outages were repaired within hours. Any remaining residential outages were taken care of by the day following.

There was damage to some docks which will take longer to repair. The dock at Rum Point is still not usable and there is still damage to the dock at one of the hotels in East End.

I emailed Sharon Ebanks of Nativeway about damage at Rum Point. Here's her response:

Hi Mona,

Rum Point did sustain some damage in the hurricane. However, it was not destroyed. The dock only was badly damaged. In fact, we did get the opportunity to use Rum Point one day last week. The dock is expected to be repaired this upcoming week. We plan to bring our guests to Rum Point again, starting Monday, September 8.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would correct the rumor.

Thank you.

Sharon Ebanks
