Best time to cruise Mexican Riviera?

I recently moved form the east coast to west coast, so we will now likely be doing Mexican Riviera cruises instead of the Caribbean. Are there any good/bad times of year to cruise there? I know that hurricane season is an issue in the Caribbean...but are there any risky times to cruise to the Cabo area? Any ideal times?

You can still cruise the Caribbean. Think Port of Galveston and New Orleans.

But, as Daycare Provider said, spring and fall are the best times to go if you want to avoid the blaze of summer heat.

I am totally phobic about flying. :( It is going to take all I have (and a lot of Xanax) for me to fly to NJ for our wedding cruise (which we planned when we were living in PA) When we lived in PA, we could cruise out of Baltimore or NJ. Now we are in Vegas, so LA is only a 4 hour drive. I just cannot get myself on a plane, so until I get over it, we gotta stick with cruises out of LA or San Diego. I know I am such a wuss!!!:( :( :(

Hi,

In answer to OP question. We vacationed in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) for quite a few years and always stayed the last 2 weeks of August. The weather then (this was about 6 years ago) was always very hot and HUMID. The sky's weren't blue most days, as there were clouds. We went back to PV for a 2 week vacation 3 years ago and found the weather to be the same.

We honeymooned in PV 20 years ago (wow!), this was the end of April and the humidity was just starting to roar it's head the last couple of days we were there. Till then our week had been beautiful!!

We're just now in the beginning stages of planning a trip for early April, I'm assuming we'll get great weather. Even in hot and humid weather of late summer we still love going to Mexico, so April will be a piece of cake!

Even January can be a great time to cruise Mexico (with great rates too right after New Years!). One thing you have to remember is that while temps in Cabo and PV are usually in the 80s the first day at sea and the last day coming back to LA are usually cold.

The middle of the cruise was terrific though (and quite the warm break after several months of shoveling all that snow back in LA!):D

Yeah, we DID have a heck of a snowstorm in LA last winter.:D

All kidding aside, I went to the MR last December and am going again THIS December. The weather was beautiful. Plus, winter is better if you like to whale watch.

As for summer in the MR, well, if I want hot and humid, I may as well stay home!

Don't feel bad. I'm the same way. I live in California and if you look at my signature, all but one of my cruises have been to Mexico. Even when when we sailed to Alaska, we flew one way to Seattle and took the train home. :p

I just know that September is the rainiest time there. An average of 14 days of rain. My girlfriend is there now and rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast. Also, some cloudy days. I hope they're staying dry!

I've always cruised during Spring break, so we've had perfect weather. It's not necessarily warm as you sail out of L.A. but that soon changes as you get closer to Mexico.

Well, don't forget that you can always cruise to Alaska and you can always do a transatlantic to Hawaii. Tho those would both probably be 14 day cruises.

Vegas, huh? We just moved from Vegas to Texas 3 years ago. Of course that was after living in CA for our entire lives and then moving to Vegas. Dont get too comfy....Vegas is a very transient place, you'll probably be "out of there" in 3-5 years. BUT enjoy it while you are there....Vegas is a LOT of fun!

If you like Mexican food, go eat at the Mexican food restaurant at the Sunset Station. The off strip casinos will also have the $2-4 craps tables on the weekends. And DO NOT miss the shows at the Mandalay Beach. When it's 80-90 egrees out in the evening, you can "wade" up to the stage to see a great band perform. That's what I really miss about Vegas... We saw Van Halen, Metallica, Rush, The Eagles, etc. All the good bands come to Vegas to play. It's an amazing time.
