Best Cruise Moments

:D When you go on a cruise there always seems to be one or two moments where you think to yourself "this is it, this is what its all about". So what is yours? I have two. The first is when I am on my balcony maybe the second night when the chaos and excitement has died down a little and I look out over the water at night and watch the gentle waves go by and the surf makes that awesome noise when the ship makes its wake. It is so peaceful and begs for reflection.

The second is the first moment I realize the ship has left the dock and we are officially underway. Its a great feeling!

I think my best cruise moment that I hold dear to my heart and think about every time I get the cruise fever came from my cruise last year on board the Conquest. We were in the hot tub on the back of the ship and the sun was setting and we were watching it and just enjoying the peace and there were a family of dolphins swimming and playing and it was like a light bulb went off and I realized "Now this is what a vacation is all about!"

For me it is standing on the balcony just before daybreak on the return aproach to our port of embarkation..it is so quiet and just the ocean and me remembering the wonderfus things we did and feeling like one with the ship that has been our home the last week.

My one really great moment was watching the Conquest come into Port of Galveston at 5:30 a.m. just for us...:D

I have two favorites. One occurs every cruise and it is the moment you awake that first morning with a knock on the door. You open it and there stands room service with your pot of coffee. You fix your cup and just look out the window taking in the beauty of the ocean.

The other has only occured once. The very first night of our anniversary cruise in 2005, my dh found a very nice gentleman in the casino who helped him play cards. At 1130pm, my hubby came to the cabin and gave me $750 in chips and sang :D "Hoppy Annibersary", :D just like the waiters in the dining room.

We had our "this is what it's about" moment strolling the upper decks in the evening, looking over the rails and enjoying the night sky. The breeze (ok...sometimes it's downright a wind! lol) coupled with the stars and moon, the sounds of the water, and the absence of people .....aaah.... Can't wait to do it again.

I guess most people do not roam around the upper decks at night. We were out there every night and maybe saw 15 other people in the course of 6 nights.

That moment, when I am sitting relaxing somewhere and I realize I have absolutely NOTHING that I MUST do right now. It usually happens on the first sea day. I start thinking, "I have no work, no cooking, cleaning, errands, driving kids around, phone calls to make, bills to pay, NOTHING to do at this very moment." Ahhhhh....... :)

1st and foremost....booking the cruise. Doing the research and picking the best option out there.

Getting out onto Cruise Critic and joining the role call. Reviewing the reviews and searching for every picture that I can find. (Such a high discovering EVERYTHING I possibly can....(is there something wrong with me?)...

Meeting & greeting the cabin steward, and handing the reigns over to them for taking over my living conditions for the week.

Exploring and pretending this is my own private vessel.

Thanks for starting this thread. I needed it.

Yep! That hits me too right about the first morning. :) My favorite moment on board is sailaway. That's when the excitement for me reaches it's pinnacle. All the planning, waiting, worrying comes down to that moment, and I am the happiest person in the world.

On our last cruise in July ,first for hubby on one of our seadays, the sea was eerily calm -not a single ripple It looked like molten navy blue steel .The ship was moving ever so gently and hardly made any waves . We were amazed by the calm Atlantic .It was beautiful and fascinating.very quiet .a very rare sight indeed

Early in the morning, either on a balcony or somewhere alone outside on an upper deck - at sunrise. I particularly like it in port, when the sea is still and all is quiet.

The other one is when my docs arrive and I do a little shake and shimmy:p

There were two moments for me - one was when the ship finally began to sail and we were on the deck with drinks in hand. The second was when DH woke me up around 6 a.m. on the first morning (I wasn't very happy at first ;) ) to see the sunrise from our balcony. Talk about an awesome sight!

I witnessed something similar this summer but in the Caribbean. I walked outside and said, "the sea is broken!" because it was just so calm and smooth. It took my breath away. :)

There's so many to choose from, ya know? I think that I'm one of those people that LOVE everything about cruising. No errands to run, nothing to clean (we have 4 kids!!:D ), no work...just cruisin' and enjoying being with the people I love most in the world.

I guess my two most memorable moments are when my husband and I just sit on our balcony and read together and just sip coffee in the mornings and then the other would be this one time at Coco Cay. We were sitting on the farther side of the beach, but not so far that we could no longer see the ship anchored out in that blue, blue water. The Mariner was sitting out there, the waves are hitting the shore, I've got a Coco Loco in hand, and the sun was warm. It was...lovely. That was one of those moments of, "WOW! Now THIS is what vacations should be!".

I also hit the jackpot once in the casino. That was pretty fun, too! ;)

After years of cruising and racking up 35 ships on a stick between myself, oldest son and hubby.....youngest son who has Autism had never won one.

Mark Price found out and "awarded" our special needs son his very first Ship On A Stick in the main theater for being his "favorite special cruiser" and had two lovely lady Social Hosts take their picture with our son holding his very first Ship On A Stick as they each kissed him on the cheek.

It was precious!!!!

Two special moments:

1) The first is always seeing the ship for the first time - no matter how many times I cruise when I see that great big beautiful ship in port waiting for me it always gives me such a thrill!

2) The walk - at some point during the cruise - usually first sea day - I head up to the jogging track with my ipod - and walk - and I am SO HAPPY (yes I am the one walking with the big grin on my face). I am on a moving ship, with the waves around me, the sun in the sky, the (big) wind blowing thru my hair - I am NOT AT WORK - and I am the only one on the world have such a great time walking on deck! I am so appreciative at that moment and realize how lucky I am to be experiencing this! :)

My best moments are when:

1. I step on the ship and am offered a funship special and seeing the ship for the first time!

2. Sailaway

3. When I can order 2 entrees at dinner.

4. When I go on my aunt and uncle's balcony and hear the calm water splashing at night.
