I don't think it really matters. We were starboard, and had great views leaving Athens and approaching Naples. Port had great views leaving Rome and passing Sicily.

 

We had hoped to see Troy and Gallipoli from our verandah, but we passed there pre-dawn going in towards Istanbul. Stromboli also went by in the night.

 

It's really just luck of the draw, depending on what time of day, and of course the best views are always from up on the top deck. We always tried to be up there for sailaway and docking.
