cool change Posted September 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2008 How is the shopping in Belize? Is there enough there to spend an afternoon there browsing. I have been to a number of islands in the eastern caribbean: is there an island that you would compare it to for shopping?
DaisyGirl55 Posted September 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Depends on what you are looking for, but we spent a very nice afternoon shopping in Belize when we were there last month. Designer purses were a hit with our party, as well as some very unique items made from the different types of trees grown in Belize. Just beautiful! Prices were good, and people friendly. Keep in mind that it is best to stay on the beaten path, so to speak. Security is very tight here, and they do not appreciate it when people try to wander off from the main areas. We had a great time in Belize, and will cruise there again in the future...
Shopinpat Posted October 1, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2008 How far is the shopping area from the tendering dock? Can you walk or do you need to get transportation? Is the crime so high their that they do not want to let you walk around? Thinking about going in Jan and was just wondering if the crime is that high do we want to cruise there. Thanks pat
EBallgrl Posted October 1, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2008 There is shopping in the gated port itself, mostly clothing, jewelry, etc. But if you want local crafts there is a market just outside of the port. YOu can walk, if I remember correctly you exit the gates and go to your left, then the tents were on the right. We loved the shopping there. Some people think its scary but we had no problems, I am excited to go back!
vmom Posted October 1, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 1, 2008 There are some stores but not alot, not compared to other ports. There are the usual stores in the gated port area. Like the previous poster said, there is a very nice market behind and slightly down the road from the port which has some great buys. Although there are some stores there aren't really enough to make a day of it, or even an afternoon. Maybe 2 hours at most. It isn't anything even close to the ports such as St. Marten or St. Thomas and if you go expecting that, you will be very disappointed.
cool change Posted October 2, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted October 2, 2008 Thank you so much for your responses. I think I have an idea of what to expect now. Maybe we will take a shore excursion that leaves a few hours for shopping.
