rdavie Posted September 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2008 There is a free shuttle from where the ship docks to the top of Signal Hill. Great driver (Ed) who had good information about the city. From Signal Hill we walked down (not too far) to the Johnson Geo Center. Very interesting-Titanic info., geology, plate tectonics, etc. At the ticket booth they called our driver and he picked us up within five minutes. NCL, of course, does not mention this. Bob J.;) Of course they don't. They aren't responsible for St. John's Tourism. I'll bet they also don't advertise car rental agencies, taxis, 3rd party vendors, airlines, or whale watching trips. What I'll bet they DO is put together some interesting excursions for those who want a carefree vacation without spending all of their time planning for it, and charge a premium for the service.... negc Posted September 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2008 We were just in St. John's on the Jewel of the Seas westbound transatlantic and were not aware of any free shuttle from the dock to Signal Hill. There were several tours available for purchase at the dock for prices much more reasonable than what the cruiselines offer. For $30 a person, last year we were given a three hour tour that included Signal Hill, Cape Spear and other highlights of the St. John's area. This year we just grabbed a cab to The Rooms and enjoyed the fascinating exhibits of Newfoundland history and the fantastic views of the harbor and the area surrounding St. John's, and then walked downhill to the shopping and restaurant district and from there to the ship. It was a wonderful visit and the local people are very friendly and accommodating.
