luvbermuda Posted October 3, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2008 My husband is a huge fan of Texas Holdem and is looking forward to playing on our cruise? I asked NCL this but no one seemed to know- are the games played with the players competing against each other at a whole table or do they only play against the dealer? I am not talking about the tournaments- regular games. As far as the tournaments, do they have these often on board? Are many during the day? What do you think of the casinos? I enjoy slots but prefer the old fashioned slot machines as I don't understand the new style! Thanks!

JohnIreland Posted October 3, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2008 Buy in (1000 chips): $60 Unlimited Re-Buys (1000 chips):$60 that for the first hour (or it may have been 1:15)... then there is a break and a add on for 5000 chips for another $60... you need to buy this to have any chance of placing... tip : just play to stay alive for the first period , until the add-in.. it doesn't really matter how well you do until after then.... after the add-on the blinds start to double (yes double) almost every period , so you really need to play hands when you get a chance, don't wait for AA or you will be blinded out... money : i think there was about 32 players and I got 1st place at $1450 for my $120 invested.... top 3 get paid... JohnIreland Posted October 3, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 3, 2008 How do you play poker against the dealer? I've never heard of this before. There is a blackjack type game were you play against the dealer... it's one of those casino always win games... it's not that one thankfully... the game on the gem is against other players, dealer dealt... actually the dealers very helpful (the polish dealer who's name I can't remember was very very good)

Lilbecky Posted October 3, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2008 We just got off the Gem and DH played in one tournament on the first day at sea. There were suppose to be cash games every night, but there were never enough people to play them. Also the last day there was a tournament, but only 2 other people showed up to play. So, they didn't hold one. Hopefully your cruise will have more Texas Hold' Em playing people on it!!!

BellaBaci4 Posted October 4, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2008 Hello I played Hold em on the Dawn $1-2 no limit. Most people bought in for $100, some less. Very enjoyable games. Its rare to be caught in an all in situation, if you get uncomfortable, just fold I am a hold em player, but didn't like the idea of the numerous re-buys in the tournaments, so I passed on that. I really enjoyed the regular games. Good Luck! Bella
