kinshasa Posted October 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2008 Can someone explain the formal night balls on QV? Black and White Ball --- does this mean wear only black and/or white? Masquerade Ball -- costume? fancy dress? mask? Victoriana Ball -- any special dress other than formal? Royal Ascot -- wear a hat as in "My Fair Lady"? Thanks! spinnaker Posted October 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2008 We were on the QV with exactly the same balls in August. One thing to remember is that the balls take place in the Queen's Room so the additional ball dress code only applies if you wish to attend. Black and White Ball --- does this mean wear only black and/or white? Yes - easier for the men as these always fall on formal nights, but this was the exception that proved the rule as pretty much eveyone stuck to the black and white theme, ship-wide Masquerade Ball -- costume? fancy dress? mask? Mask only. There were a great variety of masks including both half-face and full-face, and from really simple to incredibly ornate. There was the opportunity to purchase these on board but at very inflated prices - we were glad we had bought ours before going. Victoriana Ball -- any special dress other than formal? The idea is for people to dress in Victorian costumes, though most people who attended had just brought Victorian style accessories. Royal Ascot -- wear a hat as in "My Fair Lady"? Exactly! And there's a prize for the best one. Good luck!!
kinshasa Posted October 8, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted October 8, 2008 Thanks so much for your reply! We are very excited about this cruise (Nov. 29 - Dec. 11). Years ago we went on the Vistafjord but haven't cruised on Cunard since. There will be five of us --my husband and myself, my parents (88 and 87), and my husband's mother (79). spinnaker Posted October 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2008 My pleasure. She's a lovely ship, my favourite of Cunard's current fleet. I'm sure you'll have a ball!!
