OK guys, talk to me here. I have searched and searched this and haven't come up with much. I am looking into setting up a golf "excursion" for some of the members going with us in November. We are doing Western Caribbean. I have found four courses, two in Ocho, one in Grand Cayman and one is Cozumel. We have already decided against Grand Cayman, as we have too many other things planned for that port. SO, that leaves us with OCHO and COZ.

Anyone play any of these courses?? Any thoughts?

Thanks all!

If you want to play a nice course, play at Cozumel Country Club. It is a Nicklaus design course and in absolutely wonderful condition. I played there last week.

I have played the Sandals course in Ocho Rios, and it was nothing spectacular. Given the fact that you reside in Gainesville, you proably live on or near a course that is nicer than Sandals.

Yes Jay, not only do we live near a VERY nice course, my husband in the superintendent!

You said you played last week. Did you go through the ship or on your own? Is it possible to go on your own? If so, how much was the greens fee, cart rental, do they require a caddie?

Thanks for the information Jay!

I did it through the ship. The cost was $135 and included taxi to/from the course (which is $13/each way), range balls for practice tee, and greens fee.

I'm not sure what their posted greens fee is, but you could probably find it on line.

What course is he the S/I at. I played at Heritage Hunt Saturday before I left, as a friend got married at the Country Club facilities. There are some wonderful courses being developed in Gainesville!!

Have fun.

Jay: I am having a hard time finding information about the Coz. Country Club actually. Their website doesn't give that information and have called three times and am having a hard time getting someone on the phone that speaks good English to help me. I have also emailed them twice, no response. I found with the one course in Jamaica that it will cost just about the same as the ship to go alone so it is probably the same in Coz. I am sure.

Also, not comfortable sharing my husbands course on the boards, but I would gladly email you if you are interested.

Thanks again for all your help.

OH yeah, did the ships excursion include a cart and/or caddie?

My bad...cart was included at Cozumel Country Club.

At Sandals, they put you in a cart, and then provide a caddie. (I thought this was pretty much a waste) I would have just as soon walked with the caddie. The caddie/cart fee is included in the price of the excursion, however, the gratuity was not.

No problem on the home course. Just interesting. I am envious of the beautiful golf courses abounding on the west end of PWC. I've lived on the east end (Woodbridge) for 20 years and just now we have 2 courses that are nice. If I didn't own my house in Lake Ridge, I would love to move over your way. There's just no way I would sell mine right now. It's the best investment I have. When I sell, it's going to be to move far away from this area, to a place that I can pay cash for a property.

I played a couple times in the southern Carrib. and we did it on our own. It was always alot cheaper. Remember the cruise line makes money on your excursions. Obviously there are a few exceptions to this but not many.

Yes Jay, the homes here are a great investment. We just moved here a year and a half ago and already have $110K in equity! Unreal, but very nice.

THanks for letting me know about the cart being included.

Well here is what I found. In Jamaica there are two courses...Sandals and Runaway Bay. THe ship charges $125 for each.

On your own, Sandals is just $45 for greens fees, which you might say...great savings. BUT, with the cart and caddie added in (which two can share), PLUS you have to get yourself there...it comes close to $125. This one had the best savings overall, but the having to get yourself there, plus them not letting you make a tee time, made us decide against that one.

Then at Runaway Bay, the greens fee is $80 ,cart and caddie and their shuttle actually made it MORE than the ship!

I never checked the course costs for the Grand Cayman one, since we can't play there....too many other things to do.

Then Cozumel I can't get hold of at all to have a clue!

OK, just in someone is reading this thread and needs this info. I heard from Cozumel Country Club and they charge $149, which doesn't include trans...SO, the ship is the way to go there it seems.
