Pre and Post Hotel in San Jose

We need some ideas and suggestions for places to stay in San Jose and any ideas on sightseeing tours, restaurants, etc. We'll be on a Windstar. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have personally stayed at Palma Real and found it to be top-notch.

We travel in Costa Rica quite a bit. In San Jose I would recommend the Hotel Don Carlos for more of a local experience. Request a room on the first floor if stairs are an issue. They have a very good tour desk and there's a great restaurant nearby ( Cafe Mundo).
