coasterwiggs Posted October 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2008 We have booked tours for 4 with Jonathan in Halifax and Freedom Tours in Saint John. How much tip is appropriate?
CruisnGram Posted October 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2008 It's funny that you ask this quesiton as we booked both Jonathan(Halifax) and Freedom tours (St. John) on our trip 2 weeks ago. There were 9 of us in our group and one used a mobility scooter, and we tipped each guuide $40. You are truly going to enjoy these tours. Since there were 9 of us, it was a private tour and both of them customized it for what we wanted to see. Jonathan and Don (Freedom) were excellent guides and very, very nice gentlemen. One sugggestion. If you can while in St. John, see the falls at both high and low tides. Don took us to the falls viewing area 1st thing in the morning and tide was high. At the end of the day, before taking us back to the ship, he took us back to the viewing area at low tide. It truly is amazing to see the difference. In talking to people on our ship who took other tours, they only saw the falls once and didn't truly appreciate the change. Have a wonderful trip and please tell Jonathan the Glorioso's from Maryland said hello! I'd give the same message to Don if you happen to have him, but I think they have a lot more tour guides so you may get someone else. CG
coasterwiggs Posted October 19, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted October 19, 2008 CruisinGram, were you on the Carnival Freedom inaugural out of Miami last November? We were part of that Roll Call last year. We loved both the Halifax and Saint John tours. Jonathan gave us Richard for our driver on the Peggy's Cove/Halifax city tour and he was great. The weather was 59 degrees and sunny. Only the day before it was very cold; we got lucky. We had Peter from Freedom Tours in Saint John. He was the best private guide we have had on our 8 cruises! He took us to see the reversing tides both at the start and end of the tour; what a dramatic difference. He gave us an in depth city tour, including the fun Market. Then he took us to St. Martins and we fell in love. The covered bridges and sea caves were so picturesque. We had a delicious lunch overlooking the caves.
