judyzoo Posted April 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Has anyone had any of the junior suite aft balconies on the Empress? How was it? The balcony is supposed to be large, but I'm wondering if the cabin is smaller than usual. Chuck & Phyllis Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 We sailed the Empress 3 or 4 times, once in the balcony cabin now called the junior suite. It's a nice cabin. It's 192 Sq. Ft. not including balcony. The balcony is about 45 Sq. Ft. with two chairs and a table. Devide the cabin in two parts. When you walk in. the closets are on one side with the bathroom on the other. Continuing into the room. the vanity is cat-e-cornered on the closet side. on the bathroom side, two lower births converted into a king as I remember with a night table between the bed and the bathroom wall. Then there is a drapery which can be closed off the sitting area. The sitting area consist of a sleep sofa, coctail table, mini bar and drawers on the other wall. Then the balcony. Nice cabin, book it Danno. Chuck & Phyllis
Chuck & Phyllis Posted April 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2004 BTW, don't book the aft Jr's cause theres no privacy from above or the sides. The balcony is deeper but partitions slant and at the rail you could literally hug your neighbor. Those above look right down at you. Get one on the side. judyzoo Posted April 21, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Chuck&Phyllis -- Good luck to your son. DH and I both finished law school in '74. It was tough, but worth it. Bermudashorts -- Will you be in an aft balcony? Ours is aft on deck 8. Maybe we won't have any privacy, but we're looking forward to the large-sized balcony anyway. glgolfer Posted April 21, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 21, 2004 We had an aft Cat C ( now JS) on the Empress and would not get one again. The balcony was huge, but the room was very small with NO sitting area. Here's some pictures. http://community.webshots.com/user/rcicruisers Radiance to Alaska Jewel of the Seas

judyzoo Posted April 23, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted April 23, 2004 PaulWN, Thanks for the photos and comments. I thought that the cabin would be small; it looked smaller than others in this category. RCI people insisted that it's the same size. I didn't believe them, but booked this cabin anyway for the balcony. I'm not sorry (yet), but now I know -- as I expected -- that the cabin will be small. Guess we'll just have to do our sitting on the balcony rather than in the cabin. glgolfer Posted April 23, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 23, 2004 I'm sure you'll have better luck than we did. We were on the NE in Dec 02 and the balcony was soaking wet most of the time so we didn't get to use it as much as we wanted to. The cabin is really much smaller than even a Cat D on the other ships. We really liked the ship. Be interesting to see how all the changes work after dry dock.
