SnorkelLady Posted October 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2008 What is the diving like at Champagne Reef in Dominica? We were thinking of using Irie Safari. Has anyone used them before?
scubamargie Posted October 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2008 Use Nature Island Divers. They're the best. Try to dive the pinnacles in Soufriere/Scotts Head Marine Reserve. Much better than Champaign Reef, although the reef is kinda fun with all the bubbles coming up through the sand.
scubadiver888 Posted October 22, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2008 The champagne reef is a good shallow dive. I did it as a second dive of a two tank dive. There isn't a lot there. With a good guide they will show you were there are strong jets of warm air coming out. There is a place you can lay down in and it is REALLY warm. Once you leave it however you get chilled. So do it near the end of the dive. ;) If you are only doing one dive, I'd pick something better. Maybe L' Abym. Darrell
SnorkelLady Posted October 25, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Thanks for the insight. It sounds like there is not much to see at Champagne Reef other than the bubbles. I was hoping for corals and some sea life.
w&k Posted October 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2008 Where are you docking? If it's Roseau - go with Nature Island Dive. If it's Cabrits - go with Cabrits Dive Center. We have been with both, and they were fantastic! Have a great time wherever you dive! Canuker Posted October 29, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2008 I've heard that hurricane Omar has caused damage at the southern tip of the island, around this dive site. One of the shore excursions for divers has been cancelled on our cruise (Nov 08). Evidently, the roads are impassable. I'd get some up-to-date info on this before you book. A trip on a boat, rather than overland might be an idea
