cruisnmomof2 Posted November 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2004 I know I've seen this thread before, but I can't find it. Can you cash travelers checks onboard?
GoinCruisin Posted November 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2004 Yes you can... however, do it early in the cruise... they have been known to run out of money... it didn't happen to me, I cashed them up to the 3rd day and had no problems... good luck and have fun!!! cruisnmomof2 Posted November 2, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted November 2, 2004 And I should be able to payoff my sail/sign card with travelers checks also?
GoinCruisin Posted November 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2004 You will have to put a CC or cash upfront for your S&S card... and yes, you can do the cash deposit with travelers checks... If you want to use a CC upfront but then pay cash at the end, you can use the checks for that as well...
sunworshipper Posted November 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2004 Are travelers checks accepted at the ports of call? Or is cash the best bet? LH
GoinCruisin Posted November 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2004 We actually had a little trouble finding someone to cash the checks in Cozumel, but we found one bank... there was a service fee. We also found one store, but there was a minimum purchase... Cash was much easier for us, or credit card... but we preferred to use cash.
forgetsalot Posted November 3, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2004 You can always cash a travelers check at the casino too. Sit down at the table or roulette etc, sign check and get your chips and bring them to cashiers window.I always pay off my sail and sign account the last night(late) with travelers checks, don't want to hace a bill when I get home:p . BDL Posted November 3, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2004 No problem cashing travelers checks on board. I secured my sail and sign with a credit card, but paid most of it by TC the last full day. I cashed some on board before getting off in Cozumel. The duty free store at the dock was no problem with them either.
BigDoug Posted November 3, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 3, 2004 Same here as the others. We use a CC for the S&S but I usually pay all or most(depends on how good a time we had ;) ) of the bill with Travelers Checks. We usually use cash or CC to purchase items off the ship. The CC gives you some security in case your purchases are lost, stolen or break in transit. We have never had a problem cashing TC's on a ship.
garycarla Posted November 3, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 3, 2004 Why not just carry cash? I gave up on Trav Checks a long time ago. Too much hassle. Credit cards and cash work fine.
GoinCruisin Posted November 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 3, 2004 Some people don't feel comfortable carrying that much cash around, especially in foreign countries... with travelers checks, you have the security... with cash you don't. A member in our group "lost" $300 on our last cruise... some people just feel safer carrying travelers checks, and they are not much hassle at all on the ship...
