One idea is to feed the little one early at the buffet, have her join the kids in the kids zone, and then make your way back to the dining room for a nice enjoyable dinner with your SO. You are still with the child at dinner, but can enjoy a long meal with all the 'flare' you are interested in without having to rush through your meal. The buffet is just that, a buffet, so you won't get the special attention or service you will receive in the dining room.
willysgrandma Posted October 25, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2008 The most flair you will get are tablecloths at night in the buffet. The food is buffet food and I find myself caring less and less for Princess' buffet food the more cruises I am on with them. Unfortunately, it is not similar to the food in the dining room, it is more similar to the lunch buffet. You can opt to fed your daughter early in the buffet and putting her in the kids program and you and your husband going to Anytime Dining by yourselves if you want a better dining experience. cdngrl Posted October 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2008 we did anytime in may with my 1yr old grandson for a couple of meals. we were not rushed, but the server did "keep up" with us and we had lovely family dinners that lasted about an hour. jean s Posted October 25, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 25, 2008 We once cruised with 5 families and a total of 12 children. We ate early with the children present (ages 4-16). We still have wonderful memories and pictures of the children all dressed up and using their best table manners. It was a lot of fun.

It was a lot of fun. thanks for all the replies. im not sure if she could handle a full dinner. if its 1 hr, she might but im not that confident. id mych rather have a 1yr old that cant run very fast as opposed to a 4 y.o. whos too darn independent for her own good. she'll be turning 4 after the cruise and i know its alot to expect from an almost 4 y.o. perhaps we shouldve started earlier on insisting on sitting down at the meal table and behaving but alas too late now. pooh
Cruisin' Chick Posted October 27, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 27, 2008 Be aware that the first night of your cruise, the kids' area is open only for registeration. So your option that night will be to take your child with you to the dining room, or skip the dining room and go to the buffet. Our girl was 8 on our last cruise, and she decided she didn't want to eat in the dining room. So after the first night, we would take her to either the buffet or the pizza place by the pool for her dinner. Then when the kids' program opened for the evening hours, we dropped her off. If you have late traditional dining, you will have to keep an eye on the clock so that you pick her up from the fun zone by 10pm, unless you've signed her up for group sitting. Rob & Beckys mom Posted October 27, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 27, 2008 When we had our 5 year old grandson on a cruise he didn't even want to wait for dessert he was so anxious to get to the kids club. Princess does a fantastic job with the kids, so don't worry. Feed her early & enjoy your meal in the diningroom. Jan

At least you'll know what you are dealing with. We dine with our 2 1/2 yr grand daughter all the time with no problems. If she knows what is expected, she may surprise you. ;)
