mj Posted October 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2008 If you do the VIP disembarkation, do you get off the ship before the self-assist or after the self-assist? I was going to do the self-assist due to an early flight. Just curious how it works. Thanks.

paralegal Posted October 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2008 We just got off the Oct. 18 sailing on the Glory and were VIP. We received a letter, in our cabin, that told us to meet in the Amber Palace (showroom) at 7:00 a.m. We put our bags out the night before. It just depends on what category number you get. We got category one, so we were one of the first people off the ship. It was before the self-dembarkation people were let off.
brt49 Posted October 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2008 I was on the Fascination in August and was given a #1 tag and we put our bags out the night before. We ended up sitting for about an hour as the self people left. Then we were taken down a hallway and to the front of the line.
travel girl23 Posted October 28, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2008 We did the VIP disembarkation a little over a week ago on the Conquest and we opted to do VIP self assist and we were the first off the ship - even before the regular self-assist. GoinCruisin Posted October 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2008 Self assist should always be first... the windows for customs is only about an hour... so they try to get them off fast.
cv322 Posted October 28, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 28, 2008 When I cruise with Carnival I'm off before self-assist. They always have us meet very early at a specific location, and then walk us through what seems like a maze or two, and then we're off...always the first group into the terminal. Only once (on the Miracle cruise) were we off after the self-assist pax.

Frick_&_Frack Posted October 28, 2008 #9 Share Posted October 28, 2008 In NY on the Miracle and the Victory, VIP went after Self-Assist. Do not know where VIP-Self Assist was (if they went before "regular" self-assist). All times for regular VIP, we've had lengthy waits due to the large numbers of people doing self-assist. Stircrzy Posted October 28, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 28, 2008 On the Ecstasy yesterday, the VIP self assist went first, then the regular self assist, then VIP, then general debarkation. It all went very smoothly and quick!
obx_fintoo Posted October 28, 2008 #11 Share Posted October 28, 2008 On the Ecstasy yesterday, the VIP self assist went first, then the regular self assist, then VIP, then general debarkation. It all went very smoothly and quick! This is how it's been for all of my cruises since turning Platinum. The VIP self-assist (means you are carrying ALL of your own luggage off!) meets in one area (around 7:30am). This group is escorted to the door and allowed off once customs has been cleared. Then regular self-assist - again carrying all of their own luggage, Then VIP regular who left bags out the night before meets in another lounge and are called off after self-assist. This can vary due to how many folks choose to self assist. On shorter cruises, then can sometimes be a larger number. Hope this helps!
pcvtmom Posted October 28, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 28, 2008 We did VIP self-assist, and were off the ship first. I can't speak for regular VIP, who put their luggage off the night before...

I was going to do the self-assist due to an early flight. Just curious how it works. Thanks. While each ship may vary some.... BASICALLY... you get off in this order Platinum (VIP) self assist Regular self assist Platinum (VIP) Debark (where you left your luggage out the night before) Regular Debark If you have VIP self assist...you will get a letter that tells you when and where to meet. On the Fantasy class ships...this can be a chaotic mess and some times VIP self assist is forgotten. (has happened to us 3 times this year alone) :( But I see you are on the Liberty , so this should not be an issue. The Fantasy class ships have debarking on a deck with cabins...so that adds to the confusion..... The Legend in May was our BEST VIP Self Assist...because 400+people were lined up to do the self assist (luggage in hand) from the Atrium all the way to the main Forward Theater....and the ACD walked us right past them. We were literally the 4th people off the ship...woo hoo!!

I was going to do the self-assist due to an early flight. Just curious how it works. Thanks. On the Sensation it was before the self assist and on the Fascination it was after, and during the first called numbers. What a waste that was. My kids (not vip) got off and to the car before dh and I.

mj Posted October 28, 2008 Author #16 Share Posted October 28, 2008 Thanks for the info. Looks like Self-Assist VIP on the Liberty is the route to take. Didn't realize how much it varied from ship to ship.

As a Platinum member, we always get a letter that says...."if you want to do Platinum Self Assist...be at this location at this time". I do not know of any other VIP Self Assist except for Platinum and the CVC (the now discontinued Carnival Vacation Club) contracts that are still being honored until they expire. On "some" ships Cat 11 and 12 get VIP Debarkation but I do not know if that includes self assist.
Georgiagolfer Posted October 29, 2008 #18 Share Posted October 29, 2008 On the Glory in May, DW and I did VIP self-assist. We were off the ship, through customs, met the Radisson shuttle, and back at the Radisson at 7:55am and on the road home at 8am. We were the 2nd couple off the ship. oldmedic Posted October 29, 2008 #19 Share Posted October 29, 2008 we were on the Ecstasy a couple of months ago and recieved tag #1- we had a letter that asked us to wait in the Library and that we would be escorted off the ship by ships personnell.... we were led off just after self assist. That's exactly how it works for folks who put their luggage out the night before. Glad they were on the ball with you folks. The VIP self assist on that cruise was non-existant until grabbed ACD Gary to escort us off. He had forgotten us. I can't believe we finally got to cruise together and did not meet. Of course we did have 2 less days .... thanks Hurricane Gustav!! As usual, I lived in karaoke!!! Had a blast with Aretha and Joey.

After meeting where we are told, can we use elevators ? Or do we have to use stairs ?

Muumuu Posted October 29, 2008 #23 Share Posted October 29, 2008 In Jan in FL we did self VIP off the ship and were in FL airport and in the air at 9AM. We were the first off, ahead of everyone. Loved it.

It all went very smoothly and quick! My cousin is now platinum and he was suppose to be one of the first off the Ecstasy Oct 23 with self assist but he was not and he was upset. Non platinum people were left off before he was. I could see why he could be upset but he had no reason too as he lives just 45 minutes from Houston.
