If me and my boyfriend are VIP and our friends who are traveling with us are not. Can they come with us through the VIP check in line?

if they are booked under the same booking number(as you), they will be able to check in with you...if they are booked in a suite they will be able to go through VIP check in also...however if they are booked under another booking number or not in a suite, they won't be able to .....

My cousin is now platinum and he was suppose to be one of the first off the Ecstasy Oct 23 with self assist but he was not and he was upset. Non platinum people were left off before he was. I could see why he could be upset but he had no reason too as he lives just 45 minutes from Houston.

It has been our experience that the Fantasy Class ships seem to be the ones that have the worst problem with this.

When we were on the Ecstasy, they did not forget the Platinum self assist...we waited in the Library and the ACD escorted us out. However,

while we sat there talking with other cruisers...that was the first question that came up. 'Are they going to forget us this time?" Those that cruise on the Ecstasy a lot said that this was a repeating problem....forgetting the Platinum self assist.

I don't think it matters if they have a 10 hour drive or a 10 minute one...Carnival offers this as a benefit...your friend EARNED it...Carnival should provide it. IMHO

Suppose we decided to do Platinum (VIP) self assist. After meeting where we are told, can we use elevators ? Or do we have to use stairs ?

You will be getting off the Miracle the first time and when we were on the Legend in May (same class)...they had us meet at the Sports Bar...with all our luggage and they escorted us through the casino and down that side hallway and we "popped" into the lobby ahead of all the regular self assist that were waiting.

Yes, we uses the elevators to transport luggage to the Sports Bar. Of course, it is on the same level that you debark....so that was wonderful.

However, your second cruise is on the Imagination and that is one of the cruises we were forgotten AND if they have you wait in the Library...you will have to haul your luggage down that marble staircase.

If they have you wait in the Lobby (unless things change before you sail) ...

you will be on the debark level...but you will have to deal with a chaotic crowd that should not be in there (if you even have room to get in the Lobby to begin with).

The Assistant Cruise Director handles this detail...so I would suggest that you get his or her name and speak with them the day before you debark the Imagination. Ask where they are going to have you wait.

If they say the Library...be prepared to haul your luggage down those marble stairs.....and remind him/her not to forget you!!

If they say the Lobby....I would bring your luggage to the Lobby EARLY and leave it to make sure you have a spot. And again remind them not to forget you!!

Unfortunately it varies from ship to ship, and port to port. Miami used to be the worst for VIP debarkation. Many times we (platinum) waited until thousands of regular self assist passengers were left off before we got to debark.

Carnival's VIP program clearly spells out the VIP (platinum) passengers will have priority debarkation. After a couple of Miami incidents I wrote Carnival and indicated my extreme displeasure at being treated contrary to their policy. We cruised on Valor this past June out of Miami, and indeed they had fixed the problem. Platinum (both kinds) were indeed first off the ship.

We've cruised Carnival Glory 6 times out of Port Canaveral and they, in my opinion, have it exactly right. You get Silver Priority Bag Tags (not the number tags) and a letter telling you where to meet (Lobby) and at what time. There are two times listed, one for Platinum self-assist, one for those Platinum who left their bags out for collection. Guess what.....the times are identical! (in this case 7:15 AM....long before any self assist folks.) You are then taken from the lobby (the ACD clearly asks for Platinum members only) and you are taken off the ship immediatley upon clearance. Your luggage is also in a separate area for Platinum only, so you are on your way quickly. This month we were in our car in the parking lot at 7:30 AM.

Some folks in this thread think they know what is going on during debarkation, but unless they are Platinum, they are guessing or speculating.

Damn it, the policy says Platinum get priority debarkation and when Carnival doesn't do it you need to write them a letter and let them know. Obviously I wasn't the only one going out of Miami experiencing the poor treatment, so they finally changed it.

We had one of those "don't bother telling anyone about the VIP disembarkation" things a couple of weeks ago on the Pride, though truth be known we were with friends and not in to much of a hurry to leave so we didn't worry, we just waited till they were called and left with them.

Ok, please bear with me so I can get this striaght in my mind. I have not reached the coveted platinum level. However, if I am traveling with VIP status because I am in a CAT 11, can I still do VIP self-assist debarkation? Even more specifically, assume I am traveling on the Glory. Thanks! :)

You can do self assist, but not VIP debarkation. Staying in a Cat. 11 or 12 gets you VIP for embarkation only. VIP debarkation is for Platinum, regardless of room category.

This is exactly how the Conquest handled our disembarkation a little over a week ago. We were off the ship first and on our way home before the regular self assist left the ship.

I truly think the confusion starts because we are discussing two different kinds of debarkation here for VIPs.

One is Platinum self assist...which happens before the regular self assist.

AND

VIP debarkation (which means you put your luggage out the night before) and is extended to Platinum, people with early flights and Cat 11 and 12 on "some" ships.

I say "some" ships because I have read about people in Cat 11 and 12s that did not get VIP Debarkation and were disappointed...so to confuse matters worse...this seems to vary from ship to ship for Cat 11 and Cat 12s.

Got off the Valor on the 19th. We are VIP. We were given luggage tag #1. They had 1, 2 and 3 get off (at 7:45am) ...then self-assist. then 4, 5, 6.

We were off the ship by about 8:05 am.

I totally agree with what you are saying.

I am glad that you cleared that up for me. I was thinking the opposite. It makes total sense to me.

LHP, you are certainly correct in stating that it's a problem on the Ecstasy as I experienced it last Thursday. I was Platinum and was self-assisting, but groups 2 & 3 got off before me. I couldn't agree with you more that I earned it and CCL should have provided it.

That is no longer true. The new policy is:

Priority Debarkation

In addition, Platinum guests and those traveling in deluxe suite accommodations (categories 11/12) will receive a debarkation letter offering a choice of how they would prefer to disembark the ship. They will be given the option of Self Assist (where offered) or Priority Debarkation; for Priority Debarkation, the guest will receive special luggage tags which will entitle them to debark the ship after the Self Assist guests but before the remainder of the guests.

And this is being practiced. I have had this and many others have posted the same experience.
