Ruins in Cozumel or in Belize?

We have a day in each port...would like to do a "beach day" in one, and a tour of ruins in the other. 2 teenagers; one who, of course, wants to work on her tanning. We're not up to 2 days of touring, as we DO want to relax a bit. Which port and tour would you recommend? It's tempting to just relax both days, but I would like the kids to see SOMETHING besides sand, ocean, and their parents chilling out with a margarita!

do the ruins in belize...

then you can have a great beach day in cozumel.

cozumel has more beaches choices that are easier to get to then in belize.

belize has some great ruins...we did lamanai and the river safari...
