Cab fare in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

I posted this on the "ports" board, but there's not a lot of activity there, so I thought I'd try here too, since I know this is a really active board.

Does anyone have a rough idea of the cab fare from Canada Place to the airport? We need to go there as soon as we disembark, so don't want to wait for bus to fill up.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Carol,

I think it all depends on what time of day your cruise ends in Vancouver. If it's early in the morning, around 7am, and on a weekend, then you should have less traffic going to the airport.

The fare should be around $25 CND.

If it's later in the morning or in the afternoon, then the traffic does pick up in and around downtown Vancouver. It could take up to 45 minutes at that time. The fare could go up to $35 CND.

We're scheduled to arrive at Ballantyne on May 8th at 7am and this is the info I've gotten from these boards. They are a great source of information..

We're arriving at Canada Place at 10 am, so I'm hoping to get to the airport by 11:30. We're not checking any luggage for the flight, so I'm hoping that will speed things up. Our flight is at 1:20 pm. I just remember the LONG snaking line of people going through customs at the airport last time, but there were 4 ships all docked at the same time that day.

Thanks for the speedy info!

We took a cab from the airport to our hotel which was 1 block from Canada Place in May, 2000. It was $45.00. Be sure to have Canadian money as the cab drivers will not figure the exchange for you. We actually saw a cab driver screaming at a couple who pulled in at our hotel right as we did. The gentleman wanted to pay him with American money and he had figured the exchange rate. The cab driver wanted the full fare in American money. The man wouldn't bend and he went into the hotel to try to see if they would exchange their money for them. They wouldn't so he came out and gave the driver the full fare at this point the driver started yelling about where was his tip. The gentleman told him his tip was in the exchange rate that he just was screwed out of and walked away. At the time I think the rate was $1.54 American.

WOW!! I think you got a real crook...I'm sorry

The poor fellow that got that cab driver should have reported him.

All I can say is yipes. I also know if the cabbie is going the long way or slowing things down. They can't fool me.

Make sure before hopping in the cab or Limo they confirm a flat set rate. Ask them how much in Canadian $ confirm it. I always do and thats what I pay.

Yep, I agree we most likely got took and so did the guy before us. After traveling all day we weren't in the mood to start off our trip arguing with someone who we could barely understand. We did learn a good lesson and now I plan that part of our cruise a little better.

the best idea is to pay the cabbie with a credit card. you will get the best exchange rate that way and you won't have to carry around canadian dollars.

last summer i arrived in Vancouver around 2 pm and took a cab out to canada place. the trip took approx. 30 minutes and came out to about $27CDN.. i gave the cabbie my credit card and paid $30CDN... when i got my credit card bill, with the exchange rate i beleive the fare was around $22-$23USD

have fun in alaska!

OUr first trip to Alaska we spent the night at the airport Hilton and took a cab. It was close to $25 CND. Our second trip we arrived two days early and rented a car. I figured I'd drop the car at the airport and grab a taxi. When stopping to fill up with gas, I noticed a limo sitting at the gas station. I inquired about the cost of the limo and it wasn't that much more than the taxi. I believe I paid him $50 CND which included the tip. If we ever sail Alaska again this is the way I'll go. Much better than the taxi ride and it's a great deal with the exchange rates.

One thing I will never do again is get one of the sky caps at the Vancouver airport to help us with our luggage. It's the first and only time I've ever had one demand a specific tip and refuse to leave unless he got it. Normally, I tip a $1 per bag. Since the exchange rate isn't so hot, I tried to tip $1.50 CND per bag. This joker harrased me until I gave him $2/bag.

What can I say, he wore me down. I got to a point that it wasn't worth starting my trip out on a worse note that it already had with this screw ball. Next time, I'll get a cart and take care of my own luggage. They can just stand there and forget about making any $$ off of me.
