sunone Posted November 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2008 We will be in San Juan for the 1st time on Dec.29th on the Noordam. We would like to go to Culebra Island for the beaches. Do the ferrys run from Old San Juan or do you have to go to Fajardo? Any info . will be greatly appreciated!! I'm confused:confused:
wwinfl91 Posted November 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2008 Take a look through this link. It has information on Culebra island that I found and posted in another thread. As I remember it basically said that if you were only there for a day off a cruise ship the trip was probably too long unless you wanted to take a small plane trip to it. Anyway it was somewhere on this site below where they talked about it. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/ Here are a couple of other sites to check out. http://www.islaculebra.com/index.htm and another http://www.enchanted-isle.com/culebra/ one more http://www.culebra-island.com/ They do mention a ferry and give a schedule. Hope these help. Good luck and don't miss the ship.
sunone Posted November 12, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted November 12, 2008 Thank you, If the trip to Culebra will take to much time, what beaches would you reccommend near San Juan. Are there any with white sand and calm water?
wwinfl91 Posted November 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2008 We've never done the beaches in San Juan on either of our trips there. But here is an article that specifically deals with beaches near San Juan. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/category/beach/ Hopefully someone else who has done beaches near San Juan can assist you will some more personal advice. Have a great next cruise.
rainforestgirl Posted November 12, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2008 Getting to Culebra... Forget the ferry to Culebra (too much time). You can get there pretty easily if you fly from Isla Grande airport. I think it is about $80 pp each way. It is a 15 min flight. From the airport take a taxi to the beach. You could fly back or take the ferry back to fajardo and take a taxi back to OSJ. But it is a full day. Just so you realize, the beaches around SJ are not nearly as nice as other islands you will probably go to on your cruise. SJ is a city with 2 million people.... the water and beaches are plenty used with run off from lots of streams, so not pristine blue water. So unless you have to go to a beach, you may want to wait for another island. But for other beaches closer to OSJ. You will be here on a Monday, so the Balnearios are closed. I would head to the beach behind El San Juan Hotel (or ESJ Towers). It is nice and it will have watersport stuff to rent, chairs to rent and food and drinks for sale nearby. LA_FadeAway Posted November 13, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2008 Culebra is a great little island! We spent several days there before a cruise out of San Juan last year. We flew on a little bitty plane from Isla Grande airport. Lots of fun!
sunone Posted November 13, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted November 13, 2008 Thanks so much!! We have 2 14 year old girls to entertain, so we will probably go to Isle Verde beach for awhile and then head into OSJ:rolleyes:
