captain bob Posted November 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2008 Question for you experts. I swim and snorkel well and have signed up for a discover scuba session on a cruise that stops in Aruba next winter. Should I consider taking a class or course at a local dive shop before? Their web site says they only do open water dives from May to Oct. up here in the north. Pro and cons? Thanks so much. Bob

My local dive shop actually offers "free" scuba days at the local pool where you can try scuba. Also you have plenty of time to get certified if you like it, and if not you'll at least get to see how you handle scuba in a controlled environment. Any additonal practice or training prior to you first dive, even if in a pool, will be beneficial.
