Does anyone know if Royal Caribbean offers discounts to anyone booking a future cruise on board?

Thanks.

No discounts for booking a cruise while on a cruise. You will, however, receive an on board credit for the cruise booked that will be determined by the number of nights sailed.

$ 50 for sailings of 3-5 nights

$100 for sailings of 6-9 nights

$200 for sailings of 10+ nights

Booking a cruise onboard is really only a good idea if you are NOT a Crown & Anchor member Platinum or above, or a Stockholder..if you are either or both you can't combine your next cruise booking credit with your Platinum balcony discount, any C&A coupons or the OBC for owning 100 shares of stock..if you are a new RCL cruiser it IS a good way to pick up some onboard credit...

This only becomes effective after December 31, 2008.

Is there a difference between booking an actual cruise onboard and buying a next cruise certificate?

The difference is the amount of deposit ($100 for NC and full deposit for cruise.) Both will give OBC. However, all that changes on Jan. 1/09. If you are a plat. or above and book a balcony you will have to decide if you want OBC or balcony discount. If you are a shareholder or have a C&A certificate you won't be able to combine them anymore.

But basically, to answer your question, it's the deposit that makes the difference.

When booking an actual cruise you have to know the ship/itinerary/sailing date and you must pay the full deposit upon booking.

With a NC booking you only need to put down a $100pp non-refundable deposit, but it is good forever.........it never expires. The OBC will be determined once you have changed your NC into a specific cruise and have paid the full deposit less what you paid for the NC.

A NC must be booked while on a cruise................an actual cruise you can book either on a ship or directly from home.

Just be aware that as of December 31, 2008 C&A is changing it's policies. You will only be able to use one benefit per cruise. So you must decide whether you want the OBC attached to the booking, C&A P/D/D+ balcony discount, C&A $$$ off Savings Certificate or OBC if you are a Shareholder.

Visa Points can be redeemed and used whichever way you want on any cruise.
