? for Blackjack players!

Two of the very best bets on the table are the pass line/come bets (with the shooter), and the don't pass/don't come bets (against the shooter). Both of these bets have about a 1.4 percent house edge, but obviously pay at different times.

That is exactly the way I play, with maximum odds allowed.

One thing not mentioned in the article is that odds do not work on the come-out roll unless the player calls them on. I always have my odds working. Why not? The come-out roll is no different than any other roll.

I am usually the only player at the table who keeps his odds working all the time.

what you are talking about is odds on come/dont come bets....you can leave or turn these bets on and off...but the come out roll no odds can be placed on the pass/dont pass lines.

You are correct, no odds allowed on the pass/don't pass line on the comeout roll. I was just saying that I always have my come bets odds working.

You should be able to use a cheat-sheet. In fact, often you can turn your cards over and ask the dealer for suggestions. There is no rule against showing your cards to the whole table.

Especially since blackjack cards are dealt face-up. ;):p

I've only played in Nevada... and I've never seen cards dealt face-up. Not to say there is anything wrong with this... but still, have never seen 21 dealt straight up.

Must be a cruise ship thing... along with their multi-decks and some other strange "21" variation games I've seen as I perused the casino floor.

I love 21 but never saw a reason to play on a cruise ship... unless I had "extra" cash... but I always thought "extra" cash was reserved for over-TIPing... :D

Maybe a 21 tournament would be more interesting.

You must play "pitch" blackjack. Those games are really in the minority in most Nevada Casinos these days.

Do any of you guys know a good website or downloadable game that lets you practice craps? I have the basic rules. Or I can re-have them again. But what intimidates me is the flow of the game. I'm afraid to step up to the table and make a faux pas. So i'd love to play pretend games with pretend other players (more so then real other players!) and to practice that flow.

I doubt I'd ever step up to a table if I can't figure it out ahead of time.

Roulette's my favorite. The etiquette is really easy to pick up on. And the odd places to bet come fairly easy too. It's also really social which is why I like it.

But Craps looks really social too, and so I'd like to try it on our December cruise.

ummm...could someone direct me to the cruise forum?:D

You open a thread titled "? for Blackjack players!" and then complain that it is about gambling? If you are not interested, why read the thread in the first place?

  • 3 months later...

It's been many years since I've been on a cruise and played blackjack in a ship casino but, if I remember correctly, they made subtle changes like dealer being able to hit soft seventeen to further increase their odds. Hate that kind of thing but then they do have a captive market.

They do hit soft 17's - then again, that is becoming commonplace at many casinos. I seem to recall that they made that change a couple of years ago, but I could be wrong. One casino is slowly blending with all the others in my mind - LOL!
