CAS and Seabucks

Can someone help me understand the CAS/Seabucks program and how it works, EXACTLY ?! I am aware that point accrual depends on how much you play, how long you play and what you play... However, all I want to know is if it is worth me joining the CAS program -- ie would I have to spend thousands of dollars to simply accumulate several Seabucks or is this program truly favorable to gamblers ?!

Thanks and good day

For most slots $138 = 1 point (run through machine no matter what the initial deposit is). 25 minimum points to cash in for $25 credit. While it's favorable for me, it's not usually good for "casual" players. The most value comes after you sail. If you accumulated a lot of points on your last sailing, you will be eligible for discount or comp cabin on future sailing.

This is honestly going to be different for every one.. as far as if it is worth it or not. To you I would say.. it's free to sign up.. so what do you have to lose if you are goiing to gamble anyway? Nothing. You can only gain by getting a players card.

Also, on every NCL cruise we have been on.. or.. at least on three of the four, they have had two hour segments here and there where you earn double and tripple points.. so it would be even less to accumulate the points. We almost always take advantage of those specials.

In addition to what Terry said, you will also get a coupon book when you sign up. Coupons for $10 free slot play, etc. So it's definitely worth the price....free! :D

Also, I know what they say about the $138 in to get a point, but man, that seems like a lot to me. I accumulated over 80 points on my last cruise, so if it is $138 per point, I may have a problem I'm not aware of! LOL

Seriously, think of it this way. You put $20 in a machince and are spending $.50 every spin. About halfway through your $20, you hit for $50 bucks, and then you start playing on that, and about halfway through that, you hit for $40. It can go on and on and before you know it, you've put a few hundred through that machine, not much of it your money. It's complicated for sure, but that has to be how I earned over 80 points cause I sure didn't spend $8000 of my own money!

  • 2 weeks later...

I've read somewhere on a travel review website that passengers joining or who belong to the CAS program are given 'free drink' cards that are usable in the casino only -- is this TRUE ? Or do you need to be one of those "high rollers" dishing out Franklin after Franklin after Franklin ...

for, about, 3 months...earlier in the year...it was true. they were testing to see how the free drinks would work. it didn't and they quit doing it.

we have gotten drinks comped, without spending thousands and thousands..just depends on the casino manager.

for a "free" programs, signing up for the casino card is a good idea...just like land-based casinos...why turn down something that is free?

Do you get a card for the CAS? I signed up online and just got a "thank you" response with no further information. I was wondering if you have to check in or something at the casino once on board? Thanks for any additional information!

You won't get the card in the mail prior to sailing. It may be in your stateroom waiting when you arrive, but if not, just see the casino manager and they will give it to you.

Regarding the free drink question, unless you get lucky and the casino manager decides to give you some free drinks, the only way to get them is by booking through CAS and getting the free drink card. And, you can only book throug CAS if you've cruised NCL before, and accumulated enough points to qualify to book via CAS.

I do spend my fair share of money gambling, but it's not thousands of dollars. And I've qualified to book through CAS after every sailing. As Terry said...be sure to take advantage of those double and triple points playing time...they really do help the points add up.
