valancy1 Posted February 28, 2009 Author #76 Share Posted February 28, 2009
We are cruisin' on Destiny the end of August, and I would hope the weather would be better. However, just for clarification, if a ship needs to bypass a port d/t weather, they give you the OBC (is it always $20?) and you get a refund for your excursions. Is that right? Thanks.
Yep, that's right! $20 per person is credited back to your room (they leave a memo under your door or in your mailbox if you have one) and any excursions you purchased prior to port of call... though we didn't do that part, so I am not sure if they credit your credit card or give you OBC. The credit card credit sounds more plausible though if you purchased them on the ship. Anyone else know?
merocket59 Posted March 11, 2009 #77 Share Posted March 11, 2009 I'm sorry I didn't find this post sooner but I'm glad I found it! I'm getting married on Destiny in Aug so I really enjoyed your detailed review and all of the wonderful pics to accompany it. I've never been able to find such a detailed review about the look of destiny, I appreciate you including the circle theme that you recognized, I'll try to tie that into the reception somehow. Do you mind if I use the pic from the casino on my wedding website? .. and congrats on your slot winnings, I love penny slots!!

I also thank you for ASKING about using my photo! Of course you may use it; I would like to get credit for it, though; would you kindly put something like "photo used by permission of Debra Groh" please? Secondly, I would love to have a link to see your wedding page. :) We got married 6 years ago in May and I still loved everything about planning my wedding... I hope you enjoy the whole process, and congratulations again. Debra
kikicruiser Posted March 11, 2009 #79 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Debra thanks for sooo much info. We will be sailing 5/14/09 on Destiny (key west/cozumel) for the first and are very excited! I do have 2 quick questions. Do they serve Sushi on Destiny and who was performing in the Piano Bar when you were there? I will check back for your info if you have time to respond. merocket59 Posted March 11, 2009 #81 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks!! Here is the link to my website http://www.mywedding.com/megananddougswedding On another note, do you think the ginger pills helped at all? I was thinking of getting some just in case because even the nondrowsy dramamine knocks me out.
valancy1 Posted March 13, 2009 Author #82 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Mona, how good to hear from you! Thank you for the link--I will definitely check it out. Where are you sailing next and when??? April, there was sushi on the ship, but I'm not a sushi eater so I can only tell you the lines at certain times were LONG :). The piano bar is another thing that I cannot comment on as I only ducked my head in there. If you look up Falkcor's review of Destiny from October or November last year, he talked about the piano bar at length. The only thing is, is that his fellow that he enjoyed so much left Destiny the week or so before we were on board and someone else took up the slot. They change a LOT or better, OFTEN, so I would ask this question closer to the day of your departure--like 3 weeks maybe. These folks seem to switch around alot. After what Falkcor said, and knowing this person wouldn't be there when we were, it sort of took the bloom off the rose for wanting to spend time in the piano bar. :D Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. I travel for a living and my life isn't my own all the time when I'm on the road. Best,

I used them on our first sailing in September when we hit rough waters and the ginger really helped. The other thing I saw a lot of were those anti-nausea "circles" put behind people's ears, but I don't know from whence they came--maybe the ship's doctor? Oh, and I've heard that BONINE also works without putting you to sleep. Maybe you might want to take it for a test drive and take one while you're still home and see what the effects are--like if you get drowsy or whatever. HTH!
