CaroleV Posted November 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2008 Is it possible to get off the ship & find a driver to bring us to the some of the sights & beach for a couple of hours. I don't want to pre-book a tour for the 4 of us. What do we look for in a driver. We don't want any thing elaborate just the hightlights & the beach. katgrl Posted December 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2008 Sure there are many private cab operators there at the dock as you get off of the ship. Be sure and tell the islander that is helping with the taxis what you want to do and don't get caught up in the first thing they send you to. If you want private taxi you must ask for it, otherwise they will put you in with a group similar to the tours you can book off the ship. Make your price prior to trip and don't pay until tour is over. Get a list of places to see on St. Thomas from other tours and go from there. Have a great time, Katgrl
The Islander Posted December 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 6, 2008 Taxi rates in St. Thomas are fixed but as katgrl suggested you should discuss what you want in your tour & beach stops and get the total price before heading off. Rates for standard tour from the Taxi Rate Sheet: "Sightseeing Tours: 2 hours - One passenger $50; two or more passengers $25 per person. 3 hours - One passenger $60; two or more passengers $30 per person." --Islander
