eastexascruiser Posted November 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2008 We were on the 5 day Thanksgiving cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy. We've been to Progresso before & loved it. As soon as we got off the bus from the pier, we jumped on the double decker bus for the city tour ($2/per person). We sat on the top. Be sure to duck so you don't get hung up on a low hanging electric wire. This was especially interesting for my husband who is 6'3". Good thing we did the bus tour BEFORE consuming alcohol ;) After enjoying the 45 minute bus tour, we spent some time in the market buying some souvenirs. We then headed toward the beach. We made 1 quick stop at a little side bar for some beers. Afterwards, we proceeded to the beach. We ended up in front of Buddy's. This was a great place for our group. We had covered tables & were waited on hand and foot. They had awesome drink specials. We did the massages ($60 for 30 minute massages for 4 people). We also did the banana boat ride ($5/per person). Other than that we just hung out on the beach. It was a fun "party" atmosphere, which was great for us because we had our 18 & 22 year old sons with us. There were some beach games - some a little inappropriate for young children. There were a dozen of bar areas, all with different atmospheres so everyone could find something to their liking. My only complaint would be the people constantly trying to sell stuff. At some point, they need to get this under control. Other than that, no complaints at all! Enjoy your day in Progresso. It is a beautiful place with wonderful people! :)
hillbillycruisers Posted November 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2008 Thanks for the review...we'll be there next week....could you describe the banana boat ride? How long was the ride...how big are the boats...how many people at a time, etc? Thanks :)
eastexascruiser Posted November 30, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted November 30, 2008 The banana boat rides were the "double banana" which adds to the stability ;) We had 5 adults and 3 children comfortably on our boat. The people in the front get a lot of water in their faces! I'm glad I didn't call the front seat! The ride was about 15 minutes. Have fun on your cruise!
