Teenager allowed in bars on Holiday

My husband read somewhere that teenagers are allowed in the bar area up until 10pm. Is this correct? No my son (15) will not be drinking, but our group loves to dance and so does my son. Will he be allowed in there with both parents? Don't bombard me with post about what a bad parent we are for wanting him to join us. He says he's not going to camp carnival for his age.

Here is the policy

http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Age_Restrictions_on_Board.aspx

Lounges, shows, and the dance club:

Guests under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult in all public areas of the ship.

Guests under the age of 18 must vacate the dance club by 10:45pm.

Guests under the age of 18 may not attend the Midnight Shows, which are "R" rated.

Kids your sons age usually have a dance party every evening at one of the bars/lounges/nightclubs onboard. They are invited to enjoy themselves until 10:00PM, when they have to leave so the adults can come in.

During the teen dance party ---- nobody older than 17 is permitted in the club.......that includes the adults/parents. This activity is closely monitored by the youth counselors and security to keep our teenagers safe from anyone who might try to do harm.

While the "policy" is very specific, on board I've found things much more lax. They have dancing in many venues (other than the disco) and my teen children were allowed in all the lounges with me to enjoy the evening entertainment. My 17 year old son went to see the late-night comedian. We did not try to enter the "disco" so I can't comment on that. As long as they aren't drinking or "carousing", I've not seen anyone removed from an area. It appeared the policies are to prevent teens from taking over an area in mass groups. Accompanied by their parents everything was fine.

Please encourage him to try out the "camp" for his age group. They always look like they have fun and many make friends through the group. My son used to go just to play the video games with them. The club O2 has fun activites for them.

Our daughter loves to hang out with us and enjoy the music, we have never had a problem with her accompanying us. She ordered Shirley temples, water, coke, etc. I think it sets a good example if they see you can have fun without over indulging.

I believe the "curfew" for the "dance club" refers to the Disco.

I have always enjoyed taking my kids to other venues with music and dancing around the ship at night and have always seen other families doing the same thing.

Many of our fondest cruise memories are times we spent together doing just these things.....my younger kids and I have danced together to the music in lounges other than the disco and my older DD's and I had a great time singing together in the Piano Bar. We always have late seating so these things took place later at night.

The only place I have seen age requirements enforced was the disco. On the Miracle they were carding young adults as they entered during the adult hours. They also questioned us when we stuck our heads in during the teen hours when we were looking for our kids. They didn't actually stop us when they realized that all we wanted to do was look down into the disco from the upper level to see if our kids were there. I have never seen age requirements enforced at the adult shows. In fact, I know for sure that a 16 y/o old girl participated on stage in the adult hypnotist show. As for the other bars, I really don't know. I never noticed teens in them. Not saying they weren't there, I just didn't notice. I think I would have noticed tho if there was a security guard checking ID's at the door like they were at the disco.

Hi, try very hard to encourage your son to check out camp carnival. We were on the Liberty last summer and our daughter had just turned 15 years old. The first night she did register at camp carnival, but didn't want to join in on any of the activities...she said, "it was gay!" We went with another family who had a daughter the same age and the girls had their "issues." So....a lot of time, my daughter did her own thing without the other girl. By Wednesday, she finally did check out the Club 02 and she was VERY DISAPPOINTED that she didn't go in earlier in the week. She met so many kids and had a great time hanging out with them. They were in the club together dancing and at 10:45 when the teens had to leave, they all hung out together, usually right in front of the club and they talked to other teens who walked by. We are from the Ft. Lauderdale area and my daughter met something like 7 or 8 kids from Miami, they still talk and they are trying to get together. We also became part of a cruisecritic group before we cruised and we met many families with children our daughter's age...the kids got to know each other before we were on board. In fact, we all met the night before in Miami at a restuarant. Its been almost 5 months now and we are all still really good friends. Planning our next cruise for July 2010. Good Luck with your son...he will have a blast. Hope this helps!!!:D

The kids clubs are great but if your son is really not interested, don't panic. Neither of my children would participate in those activities and had a great time hanging out with us on a 12 night cruise. Some of my fondest memories are the times we just "hung out" in the evenings as a family.

The Disco after a certain hour.....the Casino 24 hours a day and the midnight comedy show ....will be the only places on Promenade that will not allow him.

There is always a cover band in a lounge that has LOTS of dancing and I LOVE IT when folks dance when I am singing in karaoke. Both of these are open to any age.

Just got back yesterday from Destiny. We were with 15 and 16 year old boys. They went to O2 the first day and had a similar reaction - turned around and walked out. But on the last day they met a bunch of kids and ended up really regretting not going to O2 more. I know that if we went again they would be the first ones in line at the 02!
