Hi,
We stay at the Wyndham Old San Juan. It is a very nice hotel, with a pool and casino, but it is across the water from the Adventures pier. (Pan American Pier, which is not where most of the ships dock) We love to stay there because it is right in Old San Juan. It would be about a $10.00 cab ride from the hotel to your ship. This hotel is located near lots of shopping, restaurants and many things to do and see in Old San Juan.
If you want something closer to your ship, the Wyndham Condado Plaza is the closest one. It is right next to the bridge between Condado and Old San Juan. It is a large hotel with it's own beach, (something that the other Wyndham does not have), a casino, and within walking distance to everything in Condado.

Consider the Marriott in the Condado. It is within walking distance to many nice places to eat and it's the action spots. Get a pool/ocean view room in the tower. The lobby bar is wonderful. It has a nice beach and great pool area. It is a 10.00 cab ride to the pier. You can't go wrong here!

Enjoy!

We have used Priceline twice for hotels on a day prior to cruise in San Juan. Got the Caribe Hilton for $65, and the Wyndham Condado for $74. Both have good restraunts and pools, but the Caribe Hilton has a nicer beach. I bid in the resort category for that area.
On the day of your cruise, check out and get a cab to the ship around 11AM. You should be onboard by noon and in the pool or hot tub before most of the pax are on final approach to SJU.

I have not stayed there personally, however a friend did and she said it was fine for one night. A typical Radisson she said. She was on the Adventure. It is not on the beach but it is one block and it has a rooftop pool. You are within walking distance to alot of eateries also. Enjoy!

The Howard Johnson hotel is nice also, and on the less expensive side. The only thing between you and the beach at the HoJo is the condo high rise building on the beach side of the street. There are places to eat within walking distance and the public bus to Old San Juan is a quarter. We stayed there several months ago before our Adventure cruise and will be staying there again next January.

Poppy, it's not too much. I'm sure if you check Radissons online rates, you'll find that you saved some $$. The prices I gave were from a couple years ago, plus all rooms don't go for the same price. A lot depends on the timing and how much inventory they have to move. Have a great cruise.
