Labadee Zip line

Is it cheaper to book this on site or is it better to book this through RCCL. We are on Freedom and are the only ship in port that day. We have 6 in our group and any savings would go directly into my casino slush fund so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :D

Labadee is wholly operated by Royal Caribbean. I haven't ever seen anything that would lead me to believe there are different prices for the Zip Line based on whether you book through the web page ahead of time, or wait until you are on the cruise itself. There are no independent excursions available on Labadee.

We did the Zip line last March when we stopped on the Millenium (which I think is considerably smaller than Freedom) we were the only ship in port as well and the Zip line was fully booked for the day. I don't think it's any cheaper to book once you get there and you run the risk of it being full.

At the risk of being a nattering na-bob of negativity, I would certainly hope that "250 pounds" means "250 pounds". Why would you want to take a chance beyond that? And, where would you cut it off if you owned the facility? 260 is ok, but not 261? If they said ok to 260, what would you do if something happened?

Granted, these zip lines are usually rated at many thousands of pounds, but I'm not an engineer so the limits are there for a reason. I do recall a post in here some time back where a very heavy person did a zip line and something broke, and she unfortunately fell to her demise.

If he can drop the 10+ extra pounds great, if not why risk it?

You stated that you knew about the safety factors, correct?

IANAE(ngineer) either, but I strongly suspect the weight limit is for speed-related safety reasons, as opposed to the support strength of the cable and harness equipment. Just a guess.

Good point. I went ziplining with a group in ID earlier this year, and the lightest person did not make it to the tree platform/landing spot a couple of times. Myself, on the other hand at 200 lbs., hit the landings hard.

We tried the zip line- it was great. Our friends went on a later excursion and the winds actually stopped the heavier people mid line over the surf. The attendants had to throw up ropes and pull them to the landing area. I can only imagine this might be difficult with someone too heavy?

I hope you are both able to ride together- it was an amazing view!

According to a review by cruise critic member....Jen, (See her fantastice web page and review: http://www.jenscruisereviews.com/LibertyPage.html)

...Said on their Liberty cruise they changed it to 220, then to 200 because of weather conditions...but the weather was calm and sunny, go figure..

I did the zipline last week at Labadee, and it was amazing. They have a scale and make you write down your weight when you sign the release. We had very strong headwinds and they sent us off by weight. They are very strict about it.
