1st time snorkeler at Cococay-tell me about it!

DH and I want to try snorkeling on our upcoming RCCL cruise in January. We both are new to snorkeling and are wondering if we should purchase some equipment in advance or just rent on this trip. I'm not sure how warm the water will be at this time of the year, and if it would be money well spent. We are both comfortable in the water and think this would be a great new adventure for us.

Please offer your thoughts and opinions on the Cococay experience for 1st timers. Thanks!

I would recommend renting. I tried it for the first time at Coco Cay this past August, and I absolutely loved it. I'm planning on purchasing equipment (and considering scuba certification) ahead of our cruise next year. I don't know whether or not you can rent the equipment after you get off the ship (and have assessed water temperature). I can tell you that the day I was there, it rained pretty heavily in the afternoon, so snorkeling was about the only activity that wasn't impacted by the weather. :D
