kls23 Posted December 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2008 If you had to choose between Altun Ha in Belize or Chacchobenin Costa Maya, which would it be?
wdowns9 Posted December 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2008 Why not do both? If you choose Chaccobean in CM I reccomend going with David and Ivan Native Choice. We've used them twice and just got back from there over the weekend. In Belize we've been to both Lamanai and Xyanatunich. Never been to Altun Ha but it is a short 4.5hrs vice 7hrs with the others. harryjr Posted December 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2008 If you go with experiencebelizetours.com to Altun Ha in Belize, you'll get personalized service with Allen Dawson instead of the "cattle call" mass market tour. Allen is a native of Belize and is very knowledgeable not only of the Mayan culture, but also of the modern history of Belize and the variety of flora and fauna that can be found along the way to the archaeological site. You might even get a chance to have lunch at "Mayan Wells" restaurant near Altun Ha--a veritable paradise with delicious local foods. We were a group of 4 who did this last week and it was the highlight of our cruise.
jollycruise Posted December 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2008 We were there on Dec. 10th and had a wonderful time. Our NCL excursion was cancelled and we decided to just find a tour at the pier. We found Emmanuel "Manny" with Belize Cruiseship Taxi Association. He took the three of us on a wonderful tour to the Altun Ha Ruins. He grew up in the area and we learned so much from him. We were on the first tender and were able to start our tour early. We ended up being the first people there. We got pictures of all the ruins before there were people climbing all over them. Manny was great and we loved our tour! jollycruise Posted December 22, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Can I ask where/how you found Manny?Did he charge pp? How long was the time at the ruins? Thanks We found Manny at the pier. After we told him we wanted a private tour with no one else he gave us the price of $175 total (we are a family of 3). We spent about three hours there. With it being just us and Manny we could take as much time as we wanted. The personal tour he gave us was great and going at our own pace was wonderful. Here's his info if you decide to go with him.
