Can anyone who has sailed recently on the Dawn Princess let me know the name of the cruise director. Also is there a band on the pool deck during the afternoon sea days and at sailaway.

Can anyone who has sailed recently on the Dawn Princess let me know the name of the cruise director. Also is there a band on the pool deck during the afternoon sea days and at sailaway.

 

Gavin Chandler was the Cruise Director on Dawn Princess on the recent Grand Vista New Zealand cruise, but I believe his contract was almost up and he was moving to the Diamond Princess in early 2009.

 

Typically a CD has a 3 or 4 month contract, sometimes they elect to stay with the same ship or fly home for a few weeks before starting a new contract on one of the 17 Princess cruise ships around the world.

 

The 'Sea Monkeys' band on Dawn Princess played on the pool deck during the Sydney sailaway, but not at other ports. They are normally playing in the Wheelhouse Bar from 4.45pm to 7pm daily, followed by the other band 'The Cruisetones' who play from 7.30pm to close.

thanks shortstuffy. We really enjoyed the band on the pool deck most afternooons during our cruise last year from Seattle and were hoping that there would be live music on our cruise to the South pacific in January. It creates a fun atmosphere.

It may be different on the South Pacific cruises, with the warmer summner weather. Departing the ports on NZ each afternoon, it was a bit blustery on the top decks and a little cooler, especially around the south island. The topmost Windjammers Bar was rarely open, but drinks were always available from the poolside Riviera Bar on Deck 12.

Hi guys

Just got off the Dawn Princess this morning, all I can say is Wow. Review later, but in answer to this question, yes the Cruise Director is Gavin, and the Sea Monkeys played at sailaway and every afternoon on deck at the windjammers bar. They are great to listen to with an afternoon cocktail. We had such a good time, I am still pinching myself to believe it was real. I actually had a tear when I had to disembark and DH was just as sad. Once I get home, I will write a review. We are killing time at Sydney airport at the moment.
