LittleBlue Posted December 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2008 For those that have been visited by the upsell fairy, How far were you upgraded? From a Balcony to a suite, a oceanview to a balcony? Whats the highest anyones been upgraded to, costs, etc. We are booked in a class C oceanview on the Sky...and hoping to get bumped up... Class C is almost sold out, but there are tons of Balconies and suites left, just wondering what the chances are we will be called by the upsell fairy...
LittleBlue Posted December 23, 2008 Author #2 Share Posted December 23, 2008 just one more thing, I have gone back and looked at the archives, it seems to me, the only ones that ever get upgraded are those in suites, any one ever been visited from the upsell fairy from Oceanview, inside room or Balcony? cliffd64 Posted December 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2008 just one more thing, I have gone back and looked at the archives, it seems to me, the only ones that ever get upgraded are those in suites, any one ever been visited from the upsell fairy from Oceanview, inside room or Balcony? I have been called by the upsell fairy, and offered a balcony from an inside. This was THEM calling ME. I have also been upgraded from an inside to a mini-suite (due to price drops) because of my own actions (i.e. calling THEM). It never hurts to call and ask to be upgraded (especially if prices have dropped) and more often than not, they will at LEAST quote you the current difference... One thing to consider... when you get upsold or upgraded, you MAY lose any on-board credits you had from before.
mtwingcpa Posted December 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2008 Once they called me an offered an upSELL from an inside to an outside. Once I called them and negotiated an upSELL from an inside to a balcony (at the then current, much reduced price). I have not yet been offered a pure upGRADE that didn't involve me paying more money. Dukegirl5577 Posted December 23, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 23, 2008 OK, total newbie question, but what exactly is an upsell? And how does it differ from an upgrade?
clerky96 Posted December 23, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 23, 2008 On an upSELL, they call and offer you a higher priced cabin for a specific amount. For example, maybe an upsell from an inside to a balcony for $200. An upGRADE is when you get a better cabin in the same category (inside to inside) at no additional cost to you. Rarely does anyone get an upGRADE between cabin categories (inside to balcony, etc).
wibeachbum Posted December 23, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 23, 2008 I received a call for an upsell from a balcony to a mini suite. I did negotiate a lower price than the price they offered at first. That was on the Jewel.
johnql Posted December 23, 2008 #8 Share Posted December 23, 2008 I was upsold from an inside cabin to a BA balcony on the Spirit.
lhall85917 Posted December 23, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 23, 2008 We had an upsell from a balcony BA to an AB suite last summer. I'm hoping we get lucky again this summer!
asirign475 Posted December 23, 2008 #10 Share Posted December 23, 2008 Did you book with a TA or NCL? Just wondering because I used a TA this time. I usually use NCL direct and have been offered an upsell before. I was tempted to call the TA and ask but she is not very easy to reach.

SwimnwFishes Posted December 23, 2008 #14 Share Posted December 23, 2008 On my very first cruise we were offered an upsell from our inside to a mini-suite. The price was right and we were doomed from there on...can't even imagine an inside cabin now...have to spring for at least a balcony!
jp2001 Posted December 23, 2008 #15 Share Posted December 23, 2008 I got upgraded (no charge) from an inside to a unobstructed oceanview (window, not porthole). I was already sailing solo at no extra charge, this was a great bargain!
mbisson Posted December 23, 2008 #16 Share Posted December 23, 2008 I was once upsold from an inside to a Balcony and a few days later I was offered another upsell from the balcony to an AC I've had upsells when booking thru a TA or direct
monteman Posted December 23, 2008 #17 Share Posted December 23, 2008 We booked with NCL, had a call from the upsell fairy about 5 days before sailing--from an AD suite to a Courtyard Villa.
odblnt Posted December 23, 2008 #18 Share Posted December 23, 2008 On our 19 day repo cruise this fall the folks next to us in a AD Romance Suite were upsold from a Balcony. We were the only ones in an AD who paid full price.
chard Posted December 23, 2008 #19 Share Posted December 23, 2008 This past April we were upsold from a "D" oceanview to a "BA" balcony for $100 total for the four of us. We gladly accepted it, then told the PCC that our neighbors were cruising with us and we asked if they too could be upgraded. About 5 minutes later our neighbors got the call! Just for the record though, we'll still book the oceanview every time. The balcony is not worth the normal additional cost to us as we spend very little time in the room. For 100 bucks though...... CarolynB Posted December 23, 2008 #20 Share Posted December 23, 2008 We used a TA and went from an AB to GV three days before we sailed. Price was $2000.
familyof4cruising Posted December 23, 2008 #21 Share Posted December 23, 2008 I have ONLY been lucky once from an inside to a minisuite on the Dawn. I usually book a balcony, but the Dawn does not have a quad balcony. It worked out in the end. Hoping for a call on the Jewel.
tiggerfan616 Posted December 24, 2008 #22 Share Posted December 24, 2008 We received two upsells on our Jewel cruise last year. First was froma balcony to a mini and the second call was from the mini to an AE. We had booked through a private internet agency. Problem is I can never travel below the "suite life" now
TVLady3 Posted December 24, 2008 #23 Share Posted December 24, 2008 Upsell dept. called me 3 times for one of my Dawn cruises. I was booked in a BC Handicapped balcony. 3 weeks before the cruise the first call came in, I was offered a AB penthouse suite for $1000pp, I said no thank you, but keep me in mind if something else comes up. 2 weeks later another call for the same upsell for $500pp, I said no thanks again. Then 3 days before the cruise another call for the same deal BC to AB for $360pp! OH YES, I'll take THAT deal!:D

April7901 Posted December 25, 2008 #25 Share Posted December 25, 2008 Since I'm pretty sure I got an upsell call today that I will attempt to return on Friday, here's my question... When you take an upsell, and you have not yet paid in full, do they just add it to the cost of your reservation, and you still have until the due date to pay it, or is it a "you have to pay for this now" sorta thing?
