Hi Folks,

This is our second cruise with Carnival and we just got an upgrade to a suite, wondering what to expect. We heard that the balcony is 2x as large and there is a whirlpool tub. Anyone have any more info?

Thanks Islandgals

wow......when are you leaving????

How interesting. We got a call from Carnival today as well offering to upgrade to a suite for the Jan. 24 sailing. We decided not to do it as we are travelling with another couple and have rooms side by side. Must be they are trying to get rid of a few suites.

I booked a guarantee with the free cruise I won and paid to get a balcony cb. I was hoping to get upgraded to a suite, but no dice....UGH, and I've been on five cruises so far!!!

I had a Cat 11 suite on the Conquest. The Conquest is the same class as the Liberty, thus, the suites are the same.

The suite is a good size. It has a dressing area with a vanity desk and a closet with shelves opposite the vanity desk. There is a pocket door to close it off and then the door to the bathroom. The bathroom is positively huge. We had three people in there and it was cozy. It does have a whirlpool tub and a large vanity. There is also another double closet beside the bed for more storage. The balcony is an extra 50% larger, so three chairs+side table can easily be accommodated on the balcony. If you only have two chairs and you need a third ask the room steward if they can get another, or if you want a lounger, see if they can get you one if you don't have one...

Enjoy the suite...

I'm curious as to the process- CC calls you and say You're a Winner? Do you check on the website and discover you have been upgraded? I have figured out that nobody really seems to know what one can do to get a free upgrade, but I am just curious about the mechanics.

I may be way wrong on this, but it is my understanding that getting upgraded to a Cat 11 or 12 on any Carnival ship is about as rare as teeth in chickens!

The way it was explained to me is that Carnival ships across the fleet have fewer "suite" cabins than all the other lines so they tend to sell out completely and quickly, and, they always have 'wait lists'. Therefore, they don't upgrade to suites because they are always sold out.

If this is true, we may be seeing a reduction in people prepared to pay and/or able to pay the higher prices for suites. By upgrading they free up the lower priced cabins which are easier to sell.

It all comes down to the nasty economy hitting the cruise industry as hard as it is other businesses.

We got an upsell call. Said no because it wasn't worth 600 dollars for us. If it'd been less I might have jumped on it. I think it's because we had 3 in a cabin. Probably want to free up a 3 cabin to sell at a higher price. All that's left for my cruise is suites so they must be having some trouble moving them.

On our Liberty cruise on 11/29/08 my SIL got an upsell to Penthouse Suite from Veranda Balcony. I spent some time in it & although it was very, very nice, I'd not consider spending the $600 she did to sleep & bathe in a bigger room. To each his own.

That's what we thought. We don't spend hardly any time in our cabin as it is so it's not worth it for us for some extra room and priority embarkation...

We received the same call. It was an upsell. We told the them to forget it.

We had better things to do with my $$.

The casino calls!

But what I did do is go online later, see who did go for the upsell, and found myself a cabin on deck 7 midship so I switched cabins. We were book far aft on deck 8 right under the lido deck. The new cabin will be a little quieter (I hope)

;)We got the the upsale call as well but I told him no because there are no sea days, when I mentioned this, the price to upgrade dropped again, I said I needed to discuss with hubby and call him back. When I called back a few days later, the price was even lower and we went for it!

My sweetie and I just upgraded from a balcony on the Lido deck to a Cat. 11 suite on the Empress deck for $100 pp. We had a balcony on the Lido on our last cruise and loved the convenience. Do you think this was a good trade-off?
