Sandyrella Posted June 21, 2005 #63 Share Posted June 21, 2005 I love this thread! I don't make a cd for the cruise but I do make one every summer for my cousin's all-weekend backyard pool party. With his swimming pool, hot tub and cabana bar we all feel like we are on vacation for the weekend and literally never leave the backyard except to sleep, so I love to make a cd every year compiling some great "vacation" songs. remixernyc, any chance you can share some more of the songs on your party cd. Last year after our first cruise, I included some songs I remembered that were played at the sailaway such as Hey Baby and Hot Hot Hot, but I would really like to add some more "dance" songs. One of my favorite summer songs is Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. I always liked it but on our stop in Nassau we were walking through a small square in the middle of the shops and there was a guy playing a synthesizer that sounded like steel drums and he was playing Brown Eyed Girl. We stopped to watch and two couples (definitely tourists) started dancing to the song. To me, this just epitomized my idea of what a vacation should be...great music, dancing, being completely carefree. When I took a picture of the couples dancing, my daughter asked me why I was taking a picture of strangers. I told her that I always wanted to remember the moment, strangers or not. Sorry for rambling but reading this thread has brought back some wonderful memories of our first cruise. Only 257 days left til our next one :D
sel8918 Posted June 24, 2005 #64 Share Posted June 24, 2005 Kami's Pal, the song you're referring to is Harry Belafonte's "Jamaica Farewell" Fellow cruisers, While we're on the subject. Why do you all take music on a cruise to begin with? When and where do you have time to listen to it? cruisemeister8 - on the plane down possibly

captainron Posted June 30, 2005 #67 Share Posted June 30, 2005 No matter where you go, if you can get some good tequila, you too can spend your cruise in "MARGARITAVILLE" with Jimmy Buffet. Ciao for now!!!
bermudafan8 Posted July 15, 2005 #68 Share Posted July 15, 2005 I love summer/cruise music and make a yearly mix. You might want to try Shaggy's "In the summertime"; Baha Men - Junkanoo CD & Kalik CD; OD TAPO IMI - a Chicago based steel drum/vocal/party band that has opened for Jimmy Buffett - specifically their Best of/Instant Vacation CD and Tank Tops & Flip Flops CD, they have a website where you can order CD's and sample their music; also Hawaiian Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Facing Future CD. Another I enjoy is the band Caribbean Four - they performed on Grand. of the Seas so I don't know if they are still together, but I bought their CD on board and love the song "Big Ship Sailing." You will not be disappointed with any of these suggestions.

last_mango Posted July 19, 2005 #70 Share Posted July 19, 2005 Anything Jimmy Buffett, of course, which has already been suggested. Also anything by Jim Morris. He's kind of a Buffett wannabe, but his music is really good (Laid Back and Key Wasted, A Slice of the Island Life, Bar Stools and Beach Chairs are all great songs). UB40 - Labour of Love I, II, and III albums. The soundtracks to "The Harder They Come," "The Mighty Quinn," "Cool Runnings," "50 First Dates," "Speed 2," and "Cocktail." Thank goodness for the iPod, it makes it easy to take lots of music along.
