twodudes Posted January 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2009 Hi All I remember when Sydney won the Olympics way back in 1993, several cruise companies took a gamble on reserving berths in Sydney during the games which well and truly paid off for them. Now I know that cruise berths are not normally more than 2-3 years booked in advance, but does anyone have any advance information on what companies or ships maybe positioning into London for the opening ceremony of the 30th Olympiad? Cheers, onedude
wrp96 Posted January 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2009 Well, I would suspect P&O, Princess, and RCCL and perhaps Celebrity and NCL as they are the ones that currently berth in Dover, Southampton, and Harwich. Of course, none of these are truly in London, unlike Sydney where the ships can berth right in the middle of your beautiful harbor.
kitty9 Posted January 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2009 The smaller ships of the luxury lines can berth on the Thames, right near Tower Bridge. See if lines like Seabourn, Silversea or Regent will offer this option. I know that for the Athens games, Silversea and one HAL ship were offered as hotels during the Games. Sundagger Posted January 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2009 For those curious about the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, a couple of cruiselines are providing ships. HAL and I think NCL have leased ships, primarily for Olympic staff (and RCMP security), but there may also be visitor housing on them.
