Tampa port to Amtrak station

I see that the Amtrak station is less than 1 mile from the Tampa port. Would a taxi be the best way to get to the station after our repositioning cruise? What is there to do in the area for 3 to 4 hours prior to the train departure? Also, where is a good place to get lunch?

We will be on the Granduer of the Seas repositioning cruise arriving Dec 3.

Two years ago when we got off the ship we were able to ask around and got one of the shuttles there that took us to the Amtrak station. I can't remember what we paid, $5 or $10 pp. It was a Sunday and there was nothing we could find around the station to get something to eat. We walked several blocks to see what we could see. I didn't realize it was a mile away, we could have walked back to the port. We ended up eating chips out of the snack machines. Our train was an hour late. My son and I are thinking about taking the train to Tampa the day before since we both enjoy it. The cost of staying in a hotel overnight is my problem.
