Jenbo57 Posted January 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Hello! Could someone please explain the strange architecture of the aft end of these ships for me! We're booked on the Liberty of the Seas for a December cruise and have #8412. It sounded like a good idea at first, but now that I look at photographs/deck plans, I'm not so sure. Am I further back off of the water than I want to be, and does that weird white "railing" (for lack of a better word) obstruct our views? Thanks for any comments/opinions! :D
jtwisconsin Posted January 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2009 We are going to be on Deck 6 in an aft cabin for our upcoming Independence cruise. I asked the same question, and here is a post that shows what your view will look like. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=774735

Judging from the pictures on the other thread, I'm thinking I'm not going to like that very much and it might be a good idea to relocate! *Sigh*... jtwisconsin Posted January 13, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2009 While the views will be somewhat obstructed, keep in mind that you will have a much larger balcony and be in a much more private area of the ship.
Scotch Posted January 13, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Thanks for the link to the thread with photos. We've never seriously looked at aft cabins before because of my concern for motion (as I'm prong to motion sickness). I take it that these railings obstructing the aft balcony views are unusual and just a character of the Freedom class? I'm tempted to try an aft balcony for our May sailing, but not knowing if we'd encounter rough seas it's probably a better idea to keep our midship Deck 6 cabin. :(
sleepless Posted January 13, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2009 What decks on the Freedom class have the port hole openings on the aft corner balcony cabins?
FL_Cruiser64 Posted January 13, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Grab 8710/8410 or 9704/9404. We were in 8710 and loved it. 9704/9404 have an additional window. Scotch Posted January 13, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Wonderful views! Did you encounter a lot of motion on Deck 8?

Both Voyager and Freedom class have the superstructure around the aft balconies.

FL_Cruiser64 Posted January 14, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2009 I grabbed 8710 for a 2010 cruise. Did you think the room was small? The room was just a tiny tad smaller than a regular E1. But really not much. But the balcony made up for it definitely. The room is also a little darker since it has a regular door with a window instead of a slider. But it was really no bother. When we walked back to that room for the first time my wife dubbed it the little naughty room. :D We had 2 loungers, 2 chairs and a table on the balcony and still room to move around a little. The view is stunning. If you stand at the railing you have an almost 270 degree view. I'd book this cabin and the corners on Deck 9 over a JS or D1 anytime. jonsmom Posted January 14, 2009 #12 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Now that you mention "The Naughty Room", I remember reading your review. Your review was positive, however, some were not. Complained of soot. This will be our 4th aft cabin. One CCL, EOS and VOS. No problem of soot on any of the cabins. I am thinking of the long walk to the room as excercise after eating all that food all week. On VOS & EOS we never felt any motion/vibration at all. Only on the Carnival Freedom did we feel vibration. WOW. It shook the cabin, the pictures on the walls. Maybe cause we were on the 6th floor. I don't know. Thanks so much! Joanne (a.k.a. jonsmom) We had no soot at all. The only thing which fell onto our balcony was a ping pong ball. No clue where that came from. :D Very little vibration. You feel almost nothing. I had JS humps on the Navigator before. I had D1s hump. I trade all of them for a stern corner. Having said though, I would never take any other stern on the Voyager/Freedom Class except one of these 4 corner stern cabins.
tomko2 Posted January 14, 2009 #14 Share Posted January 14, 2009 We were in Cabin 1702 on the Independence in December - very little motion or vibration; terrific cabin and balony. Also have had Cabin 8692 (E1) on the Navigator and Cabin 6692 (JS) on the Explorer. Originally were worried that the superstructure would obscure the view but the views were all great. Photos in the link below. Kathy:)
