ambergris caye

Just wondering if we could go on our own and rent golf carts and tour

the caye for the day.....how would we get to ambergris caye? Has anyone done this?

 

Ive been there twice on cruises, but we dove both times. IT WAS THE BEST PORT EVER!!!! so much fun...

The best way would be to take a taxi from the port to belize municipal airport, about 20 minutes. jump on tropic air and fly to san pedro, 20 minute flight. tropic has flights every hour. you can rent a golf cart from any number of places on san pedro.

You should be able to take a water taxi here as well. It takes a little longer but I think it still can be done. This is what we are considering for our cruise in March. You can google San Pedro and their home web site will come up- it has the water taxi times and prices on it. We haven't done it but are considering it for March, anyone done this and if so how'd it work out?

For Cruise Ship guests - "Fly & Dive Package" Ambergris Caye is just an 18 minute flight from your port stop, Belize City. A Scenic low altitude flight over the Belize Barrier Reef and the islands will get you here in time for a wonderful Barrier Reef dive trip. Itinerary: 7:30am -or- 8:30am -or- 9:30am flight over from Belize City to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Barrier Reef Dive Trip: 9:00am - 1st tank 11:00am - 2nd tank 2:00pm - 3rd tank 12:30pm back from 2nd tank, break for lunch at next door restaurant (is additional) Flights available back to port city every hour on the hour up to 5pm Cost: $130us/2tank trip option $100/1tank trip option (check your ship itinerary for your port times in Belize, take notice of the difference between ship time and local port time) Package includes round trip flight, 2 dives, tanks, weights/belts, & surface interval refreshments. Additional: Gear rental available. Package Basis: needs to be pre booked/prepaid. Directions: Cruise Ships tender guests to land, to the "Tourist Village" Once on land, take a cab (cost $6) to the Municipal Airstrip to airline terminal (check-in info provided upon booking) Once in the island, depending on your arrival time, short walk down the beach or very short cab ride (cost $3) to Ambergris Divers dive shop to meet your trip. * TIP: Request ahead of time an early tender pass, to get off the ship ahead of the crowd. Do verify the what the local port times will be, sometimes these are provided based on time kept at ship.
