What is this picture "release form" I keep hearing about ?

Can someone explain to me what this is? Do we need to get a release from the photographer to make copies after the cruise?

Thanks

Legally...you aren't supposed to copy pics taken by professionals. Carnival has the copyrights on the pictures they take. In order to have them reproduced outside of Carnival, you will need a photo release. It is basically Carnival's permission slip allowing their pictures to be reproduced. Send me your email, and I will send you the release I used.

Hey Rocky,

Go to this website, find your cruise ship, type in the info they ask for and print out your release.

www.image.com

I plan on bringing this with me, and having the photographer sign & date the back, just in case. Hope this helps! I've heard from other brides they need this to print out pictures from the cd's.

We got married on Carnival Liberty last Nov., 2008. We spoke with our phographer regarding the release form and we were told they no longer do that. Once they give you a CD of pictures, you can take it to anywhere and have it reproduce for as many prints you want. Once we returned home, I posted the pictures (from the CD) in Kodak Gallery and order prints through them. Then picked up the actual prints at our local CVS. I have done it several times as I gave some of our guests a special album of our wedding pictures last Christmas.

Good luck...

You are correct...you don't always have problems reproducing, but they can force the issue. I sent pics to Walgreens via their website numerous occasions as well, all but one time I had no problems. I had to run home, get the release, take another trip to Walgreens only for them to say "ok", they'll be ready in an hour. It was nice to have the release. My sister had a similar problem. She sent the pics to Wal-Mart. When she went to pick them up the girl told her they were professional pics and couldn't be reproduced without consent. My sister's reply was "this was on a cruise ship, how do I get that?". At that point, the other girl behind the counter said "Which line?.. Oh, Carnival?, We have a deal with them to reprint, it won't be a problem." Yeah right!!!!!...:p..but quick thinking on her part!

Also, if you don't have a CD or a scanner at home, you will need to bring the actual print in for coping...which gives the clerk even more room to refuse you if they want.

My point is, it is always nice to have the photo release handy because you don't always know who will be behind the counter!

I just got married on the Ruby Princess. I opted to buy my proofs and my CD. No where on any of these does it say anything about them being property of Princess or even indicate that they we're professional photographs. No one would have a reason to question me on reproducing them Even the sleeves that they put the 5x7 and 8x10's that I purchased are plain and do not say Princess or "May not be reproduced." My photographer stated they are mine now, to do with as I please. I have not had any problems. BTW, if you are getting married on the Ruby Princess, make sure you ask for Lucille, she is amazing! My pictures are fantastic!

We got married 4/08 on the Coral Princess. We also purchased the CD, and my husband insisted on getting the whole lot printed up onboard (who can choose when they take so many beautiful shots!).

When we returned home I made several trips to Walmart to make copies off the CD for friends/relatives. I had no problems the first 4 times. The 5th time I had a photo employee forbid me from printing without a release!

After arguing with him I left without my pictures. I simply went to another store after that and had no problems.

My point exactly! You just never know who is working the counter and wants to push their weight around!

Could you send me a copy of the release? My email is kathrynpj@yahoo.com . My wedding cruise leaves in 4 days, and I'm trying to get all the last minute details completed!

Thanks!

Rubybride,

We were married on the Golden Princess 2/7/09 and got a package with the CD. Our Photographer, Kamen (who was WONDERFUL), also said we would not need a release. I was wondering about the proofs, just out of curiosity. He offered us several packages, but none with proofs. He said they "keep some of the proofs on file for the ship's records". If you don't mind me asking, how much were the proofs and how many? Thanks!

Hi Rubybride & Sparkle,

We were married on the Coral Princess last year. We purchased the complete package with all the pictures printed and matted in 5x7", along with 4- 8x10's, a 16x20 canvas print and the CD. It was $1000. The photographer threw in the proofs. This was alot of pictures--over 150. (My husband won in the casino onboard, so we figured it was a wash!)

A release was never mentioned, however I did run into a problem once.

I printed multiple copies from my CD at the local Walmart photoshop where you do it yourself in the machine. But one night the machine was down and I had to ask the photo dept employee for help. He refused to print my pictures, saying professional pictures cannot be reproduced without a release.

Obviously if I HAVE the CD, this would seem like a no brainer, but he would not help me. I simply waited till the next day and went back and printed them myself.

Congrats on your marriage(s) and enjoy those pictures!!

paypa, Glad you had a great wedding on the Coral! I am still in awe about how wonderful our wedding turned out! Kamen had over 300 proofs for us to chose from. We narrowed it down to the top 194, and then the real work of choosing started! (we purchased 2 100 pic 4x6 photo albums in the gift shop, and put those proofs in to show everyone).

We picked out the ones that came with our wedding package.

Then we decided all the pictures were so good we had to get the CD.

Smitag1984, I think that if you just got the CD, it was $495 or $500.

Then I made the mistake of looking at the proofs one last time before meeting with Kamen, and (big surprise) decided to upgrade! We ended up with the Rose Collection Package, 10 8x10's, 20 5x7's, and the CD for $750. (plus our original wedding pkg). But considering how nice they all were, and what wonderful memories they hold, I don't regret it.
