Husband says NO to spending another $1000

Well pooh- I tried. So book a spendiferous hotel the night before you cruise and have a spectacular dinner, and still save $500.

LOL, that's another story. It's Superbowl weekend in Tampa so the $50 hotels are $500. We're driving to Lakeland the night before and back to Tampa.

we had a suite for march 08 and used the balcony alot. it was nice and big and we had 3 grandkids with us. then we took 2 of the kids for nov. 30th cruise and had a balcony room......... the wind and rain was bad and we didn't use the balcony at all. for 1000.00 i would take another cruise (you can find one for 5 days for that price easy) yes, we enjoyed the suite but only reason we did it was we had 5 people. plenty of places to go sit outside. if it is windy or rains..... you saved your money.

I had a recent delima that was a little bit like this. I had an 8 day cruise booked on the Freedom for Nov 21. I got a good deal on an aft balcony. The more I thought about the actual cruise the more I wanted to change it. I wanted the itinerary, but i realized it was over Thanksgiving, there would be a lot of kids and we would be flying home the Sunday after the Holiday (one of the busiest airport days). I decided to switch it to the same cruise but a month earlier on Oct 24.

When I called and changed it I realized I could get the aft wrap balcony cabin for $500 more. It made sense to me for this cruise because we have 4 sea days. The rep tried to put me in one on deck 7 but I really wanted deck 6 because I wanted the couch in the cabin and the balcony spreads out fully to the back and the side. She didn't think she could book it for us because we are only two people and the cabin sleeps 3 due to the sofa converting to a bed. Well she tried both cabins on deck 6 and the second one let her. I was pretty happy because I always wanted to try this aft wrap thing. I felt due to the overall cruise circumstances it was worth it.

She then told me she had an aft wrap cabin open on my March Victory cruise, but I turned it down. I already have an aft balcony and with a port a day, I didn't feel like I would really use the wrap too much. I think I made pretty good decisions regarding both cruises.

As much as I love a balcony I just couldn't bring myself to pay the (a lot) extra money for the suite on my last Fascination cruise. To me it is just too much money for the cabin you get. We all have different financial situations, but if $1,000 is going to greatly effect your vacation (or other aspects of your life) then there is no way I would do it. You will be just fine in the OV. I was and I would do it again if I sail another Fantasy class.

We have an inside cabin booked and I want to call Carnival and get a cat 12 suite for $1000 more. He says no way, isn't worth it. We booked late, there are no other cabin options.

Carnival's website shows the same suite available for the past week so if they're offering it as an upsell, no one is biting.

So... talk me out of this obsession! I don't care about the cabin size or priority boarding, I just want to sit on that balcony in the middle of the night.

I have to be honest with you... I had a Cat 12 on the Inspiration and I LIVED on that Balcony ! I was worried that I would not be able to justify the $$. On the first day I knew I worried for nothing as it made the cruise for us.. I have another one booked this June on the sister ship Imagination..:D

Save your $$$ There are lots of places out on deck you can go for some quiet alone time. No, it won't be the same as your own personal balcony. But it will be a whole lot cheaper. Now, if $$ is no object, sure, book it and throw some my way too;)

and they will call with an upsale right before your cruise. They called me 5 days before and offered an upsell from a 4c inside to a cat 12 for $500 for 5 of us. This is a 5-night on Fascination. Then you could get your suite and save $500! If you don't get the upsell, maybe it was "not meant to be".

Lanajae, there has been a lot of good advice offered. Only you and your DH can decide if worth the $$$ difference. Do you cruise for the room, or for the cruise?

DW and I have had a Cat. 11 room our last 4 cruises (Glory x3, Triumph x1) and enjoyed the room and balcony. Going on Fascination in 3 weeks, decided we needed a quick get away. We picked this as it is only 4 hour drive to port, and $$$ was great. Got a 6E OV for $600 total, including taxes and port charges (military discount). Haven't been on Fantasy class, since the mid 90's when we sailed Fantasy from Canaveral twice, but looking forward to this trip just as much as our other cruises. Will we miss the balcony, for sure, but an OV is better than sitting home wishing I was on a cruise.

Decide what is best for you, make the final decision, then don't second guess yourself. Raise your hand and ask for another DOD.:D

You're all helping! (lol)

I know we could take another for that price difference, but we have to factor in airfare and someone to take care of our kids, as well as time off from work, etc.

$1000 for 5 nights to be able to sit on your balcony at night? Compromise with your husband. Ask him to go to the Lido deck with you at night and grab a couple chairs in any location you want since it's usally quiet up there at night. Relax and think of all you can do with the $1000 you saved. It sounds like you would love my dh. He conceeded to try an ocean view cabin with the obstructed view french doors. Ever since he's complained that he may not like not having his balcony. He rarely uses the balcony just wants to know it's there! You'd have no problem convincing him to spend that extra grand on it

Of course you realize, you could keep the interior cabin and head to the Casino with $1,000 in hand. Slap that $1,000 on a number and let the wheel spin. After it stops, you could either buy the cruise line or head back to the cabin no worse off than when you started! Now that would be gutsie!

your hubby is right

that said, I'm going on a 5 day on the Ecstasty in a Cat 12 in April

but ONLY because my stepdaughter surprised us by paying the difference between the guaranteed outside I was about to book and the Penthouse! I still think it's too much money but she & hubby were pressuring me so I caved.

I have to ask what a guaranteed "outside" is??? :D It sounds like a lounger up on the sky deck with a few towels thrown in....not sure about a room steward though lol

Lana,

Here's my perspective on this. My husband works; so do I. If I want to spend an extra $1,000 to switch from an inside room to a suite, I feel perfectly entitled to do so. That's the benefit of working, IMHO. Personally, I think you'll love having the balcony. Treat yourself - you deserve it.
