eh2zed Posted January 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2009 Which of these ports do like best and why? These ports are very different. Victoria is the Capital of British Columbia, very sophisticated and quite British. Prince Rupert comparatively is quite charming but more of a frontier town based on the lumber industry, a lot more Alaskan like than Victoria. Great stops but for different reasons. kermodebear Posted January 20, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2009 The description of Prince Rupert like adding an Alaskan port is quite apt. While Victoria is beautiful, it is a city, and suprisingly the excursion options are rather limited. Prince Rupert however featured phenomenal whalewatching, bearviewing, First Nations cultural tours, kayaking, hiking, halibut fishing, all save the whalewatching NOT available in Victoria. The other benefit? You dock in downtown Prince Rupert, 400 yards from town centre; Victoria is a long shuttle lineup or a 25 min walk to its downtown. chrisinroch Posted January 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2009 There is lots of stuff to do in Victoria. If you never go to Victoria, you are missing the Buchart Gardens. These gardens are just amazing and are easy (better) as a self tour where you can be there after sunset.
